I put together my SPDIF cable myself. Because of the recommended 75 ohm loop resistance, I used an old coaxial single-pole video cable with a RCA connector. I cut off the RCA plug at one end of the cable and soldered on a 3.5mm mono jack plug. My SPDIF cable was ready. I use this connection on my Yamaha video receiver.
Nice! That's very resourceful. I love it, I appreciate the input, and I will try that. Thank you! Pardon my ignorance, but does it need to be a mono 3.5mm plug, or would any 3.5mm plug work?

I did get the DX160 to connect to my Qudelix 5K through the USB port, so I'm hopeful. Now I'm thinking that it's a cable issue, so I've ordered several variations of OTG USB-C and 3.5mm cables with a Micro-USB end for connecting it to my Sanskrit 10th MKII DAC. The saga continues. I will update when those cables arrive.

I still had the 3.5mm mono jack plug in my craft box. With a 3.5mm stereo plug, I'm not sure whether the left or right channel supplies the digital signal with SPDIF. But you could then connect both channels in the plug and have the same effect as with a mono plug.

Merry Christmas to all Head-Fier's. My DX160 never ceases to surprise me. As it stands, after four years of use I've only seen a 3%/hour reduction in battery usage, so I can live with that. However, what happened again and again sporadically was that after switching on normally, my DAP started with a black screen in full HD resolution and no apps loaded. The DAP could not be operated via the screen; only a restart by long pressing the power button ended the situation. Last week I played around several times with the "Energy Saver" setting in the Control Panel while playing music in my favorite app. Without giving it a second thought, I ended playback and the app as usual and shut down the DAP. The next day I started the DAP again, but this time I could see the theme background in high resolution and, what surprised me, in the middle was the words “Starting Android”. So I waited to see what happened. Lo and behold, the screen changed to 720p resolution and all apps appeared. What makes me happy now is that since this action the DAP no longer showed a black screen after starting. Oh yes, I didn't activate the energy saving mode afterwards either, it was just to test whether it made a difference.

Have the 2020 version of the DX160 and off late its become quite slow and laggy. Tidal takes time to load. I make sure all unwanted apps are closed and no background process run which are not needed. Anybody else having the same complaint ?

I found the same issue with my DX160. There nothing that I’ve been able to do to fix it, so I’ve retired my DX160.

My 2020 DX160 is running the same now as it has for four+ years. Perhaps it is just the other newer devices you use that are just that much faster now? In my case, I don't use any online streaming services, only local files.

My 2019 DX160 also works the same as it did almost 6 years ago as well. There has always been lag with this unit because the Rockwell chip Soc they used (and the very low amount of RAM) was outdated even when the device was new.

I knew this going in because, while they made this sacrifice for cost purposes, they completely made up for in the overall sound, power, and specs (it was truly above all the rest in its class at the time).

Like @MotleyG I have never used it much for any streaming for this reason. But IMO and to this day, I would argue that most devices in the mid tier category STILL can't compete with this little device in the sound category.

I have to agree with this. Before the DX160 I had an AK300 and using my iems I found the sound more interesting, more colourful in a way...

Most of the time I use the DX160 offline. I only listen to internet radio sporadically. Since my favorite music app is AIMP, I can use it for both purposes, especially since the integrated 20x equalizer is nothing to sneeze at. Only the performance of the battery has deteriorated slightly. From the previous 10% per hour, the capacity has now fallen to ~12-13%. This is bearable. My conclusion: slimming down the system with ADB AppControl was worth it.

I have the dx160 since 2019. Now suddenly the Wi-Fi stops working when the screen turns off. So for streaming i now have to set the screen always on, not good for battery life... I have tried factory reset, re installed the firmware etc. without results. Any suggestions?

When you factory reset it, did you reinstall the FW? Sometimes a simple reset doest get rid of all settings.

I dont have mine in front of me, but isn't there an option in settings to keep WiFi on?

Thanks for answering. I have tried factory reset and reinstalling firmware multiple times. I cant find any option for Wi-Fi on. There is som Wi-Fi settings in developer option, but nothing that solves this problem... Best regards.

Again a small update from the DX160. The battery capacity currently seems to have stabilized to this value of 13%/ hour. The last update of AIMP was more important for me. I found it normal to use the built -in EQ from AIMP for sound optimization, but after changing the sound engine in the app with the latest release, I can enjoy the music genuine. I'm happy.
