Resell value will go down.... In just a few months.

It would suit Ibasso to give a special discount on a 2020 model for the early adopters BETA tester as we are.

Apparently they came to the conclusion they made wrong choices on the circuit Opamps and display.

On FB Paul says it's just like a car.... Yeah but a car model has a change rate from at least two years and a long announcement before.

I bet they told BGGAR guy to wait to review the DX160, because they are coming with new model. I know he uses the DX160 because of EQ

I think that was not the reason for the display as we are informed it was low on stock during January. But the circuit might be

Aside from feeling betrayed due to the early upgrade. The fact still remains that ibasso has not fixed the issues the dx160 has but then they released an improve version.

Most likely there wont be any upgrade program nor some form of compensation for us early adopters. This 2020 version might be the reason ibasso never put the dx160 in their site.

The product page that was never there for the DX160 on the website..... Yeah that's for sure..

So you can almost count how much they already knew?

It's a shame not much DAPs have android 8.
Otherwise it was directly on Ebay.

Guys...i understand the frustrations. However, may I ask ?

1/ people don’t care about spending $1700-3500 on a cables....but is mad about a $399 player that get upgraded at the same price

2/ without Ibasso to officially upgrade the Dx160, people is still willing to pay $200-300 to upgrade op-amps

New Buffers is actually a new Op Amp on the buffering stage. I am guessing

My question is that...why do you think you are betrayed ? If you like the Dx160 now, and the 2020 version is an improvement of that, then turn around and sell used. You will have a manufactured brand new and upgraded DAP without spending money....but at the same price....and warranty

On another hand, people would love to buy a cheap former edition dx160 for $200 or less...it sounds better than an iPod touch and is ways more practical

Again, I really don’t see the problems. I would be excited instead!!!

However, I still understand the frustration that you just got a new dx160 and here few months later there is an upgraded versions. But with all that I mentioned above, I would turn around and sell mine cheap ...or even to give it away...and buy an upgraded version. Just because I love what I have and want more out of it

Why else did I keep on tinkering and modifying ? Lol

You just answered yourself. It is a different product that seem to be better than the older one with the same name

Need to remind you that we would have to pay the same price as the current old dx160 model to get the dx160 with the new op-amp. Basically repurchasing something WITH FULL PRICE for an upgrade. It's not an addon. Hell even if you resell it you are in for some money lost comparing to new customer

You seem to be happy about the fact that the dx160 resell value might drop in the future *cough*

Not everyone has the money to do what you said.

This is different from buying an new product as an upgrade because it is still... A new product. But this situation is basically buying the same old product in name but internally different.

Some people pointed out this is worse than the FiiO M11 situation and I can some what agree because till the end of the day. The Pro version is still more expensive

First of all there are lots of people who find upgrade cable bogus.

Second there are no hardware mods possible for the DX160. So no opamps switching here.

This is a mid tier DAP. Bought by people who likes good quality sound but not with a deep pocket likes A&K.

Maybe for you it's easy to sell with loss and get a new one. But there are a lot out there they have saved hard earned money for an item.
So selling an "old" DX160 feels like flushing the hard earned money down the drain.

To see an upgrade this fast you feel not being taking seriously by a manufacturer.

And yes i am angry and frustrated about this. Feels like Ibasso don't mind having faithful customers.... Maybe that's the new strategy of all Chinese DAP manufacturers??
If that's so? This will be my last.

You are getting a lot of wrong points with your analogy..

1 and 2. People who spend that much on cables and op amps would obviously have tons money to be bothered playing around a portable DAP like the dx160. These same people, prolly wont mind getting another dx160. You do understand why the dx160 is such a hit, no?

Dont get us wrong, as you can see, we love the dx160 despite its flaws. Problem here is that the upgrade came too soon and it got announced while the existing dx160 still has issues nobody knows when ibasso will fix.

Ibasso, like fiio, will definitely take a hit with this sudden upgrade.

Overall, I don't totally disagree with what you are saying, and I do like the one I have. My issue is that I left Fiio behind because of their abandon tactics. I didn't have any issue with the DAPs themselves, except they quit supporting them before they were finished. Like they dropped all support and discontinued them before they were done. I know, "you bought it in that shape", but the thing is, there was nowhere that said they were in that shape and needed lots of work, and at the time I bought my older Fiio DAPs they were the only ones in the field for their price that could compare to the A&K's of the world (price to hardware comparison). They promised (when I bought them) they would continue to fix the issues with them, which were mostly firmware addressable. Then, out of nowhere they discontinued them, and said they didn't have the means to fix the programming issues their proprietary OS had. Promised I would no do that again.

It is still early, and this may not happen to this DAP, but everything points to the exact same thing. This is the only reason I am angry. I will keep my DX, and will love it, but if things push forward like they appear to be, I will not buy another product from iBasso, and will look elsewhere when upgrading the next time, like I did with Fiio (which I still do love my older DAPs from them).

They would have been better off charging more and calling it something else eg DX162. Although I think names are better than numbers. Names suggest choice, numbers suggest its better if its higher and the lower number device is somehow now rubbish and outdated but thats marketing. As it stands people would be less annoyed if the new one cost more.

I would think in this case, they should call it DX160-SE or Special Edition and charge $100 more, everyone will be happier

good deeds are always punished, and you know what I meant @Nayparm

That would have been a much better way to do it.

At the current price of $399, I think there is still some headroom left to charge additional price for this 2020 version.

I would love to see this applies to all dealers around the globe, not just the MSRP announced by iBasso.

Please remember the ones who purchased first are the ones you should be taking care of.
