How are they compared to UM Merlins?

I'm thinking of getting my gf a pair.

Re' the Hibino HDP-R10, I find it intriguing that the different battery configuration (4800mah at half the voltage of the 2000mah DX100 which I had anticipated would lead to more than double the DX100s runtime) is actually quoted on the following specs as being of the same operating duration:

Strange, or maybe it's just inaccurate specs, I dunno...

Someone in the above thread is also saying that the price of the HDP-R10 may be 1.5x that of the DX100. That's a frankly disgusting price but I fully expected the Japanese market to lead to a rip-off price for this boutique item and I can't even afford a DX100 at the moment, so, either way, I'm just an onlooker.

@Mython, back to the discussion in late April, if the HDP-R10 is truly 4.2V/4800mAh and the DX100 is 8.4V/2400mAh, then I'm inclined to believe the HDP-R10 is potentially a different beast under the DX100 shell. Wanna try running the DX100 with only 4.2V (or putting the DX100 's 8.4V into the HDP-R10)?

If internally they're electronically different, then HDP-R10 can't really be compared to the DX100 and therefore the price differences too.

I'm thinking of getting my gf a pair.

Don't have the Merlins any more, I'm just happy I got my money back from UM UK/AmpCity before they went belly-up.

Both the Heir 3.Ai and 4.Ai are very, very good. The 3.Ai is fun, with an emphasis on bass. Think of it as a more refined Westone 3. The 4.Ai have amazing accuracy and clarity and I have never heard anything quite like them. Insanely good vocals and mids. My 8.A is the best of both (and then some), but there's quite the price difference and as you can see here, the 3.Ai and 4.Ai are MUCH smaller:

As a headphone for the GF the 3.Ai or 4.Ai will be perfect - the wood finish is so beautiful that they could easily pass for jewelry.

Thanks alot for the help. I think 3.Ai will be the one for her then (R'n'B / Hip-Hop / Electronica / Pop)

You don't happen to know any CIEM-aftermarket-cable with remote/iOS-control? It's kind of crucial for her...

Just found out a little more info about the accessories for DX100/R10. The monoblock is really solid aluminium thus weighs around 2KG. It also has an anti-static patch on the resting area for the DX100/R10. As for the case, in addition to silicon, there seems to be also a leather, flip-style case available. Trying to find someone to help me get these

I'm rather curious here. If you are using the DX100 as a transport via coaxil or optical isn't the signal not suppose to be altered at all? When I enable or disable EQ it changes the sound....

If EQ happens in the digital domain before the signal is send to the dac (or out of the unit) it will affect the sound

I'd love a flip style leather case!
