I use both the Zune and the Touch for video, and love Cucusoft, one of the best apps I've ever owned. Have to check out Evernote, looks interesting.

I wouldn't get a Touch 1G, I'd get the 2G which is available in 8GB. Evernote is like a virtual roll of endless paper. I used it to follow the UM3X thread by adding posts to Evernote that I wanted to read later. All the Sony X information went straight into it too, release dates, video clips, photos, any scrap of information related to the X got filed away immediately. It's sheer genius for anyone who collects loads of scraps of info because you can keep it all in one place for quick access. And you can access all your notes from anywhere just by signing into your account.

I am going to buy sony S-739( 16 gb ) which is available for 100 pounds on amazon. Can anyone please who owns Sony X can comment on X sound quality with respect to previous A and S series. Is it leaps and bounds ahead of previous sony walkmans???
I just want to listen to music on my walkman. Oled or wifi is extra for me which prevents me from buying Sony X.
So should I buy S-739 or Sony X ???

Hey there-
Welcome to Head-Fi! It seems that the people who have it so far think that it's a step up from the last Sony Walkmans. Try reading back through the thread, they've described the differences in pretty good detail in a few places.

Have a read here. There's a comment between X1000 and S630/S730.

I have tried the SE500 and the SA5000 (I don't have the DT880s here at the moment) and - the Shures sound very nice, and their rich midrange is NOT made syrupy by this player, infact only the Shures well reported lack of treble stop these from returning back to being a main listen for me (well, that alone with the cracked sheath on the cable...) - After trying them, it also allows me to answer authoritively the hiss question - with high sensnitivity IEMs, yes - there is a little hiss evident when the player is just sat there, but - it really is barely audible in comparison to some other players out there, no problems at all

Re the SA5000, you get the inevitable lack of drive / volume compared to IEMs, but - if you were desperate, they are listenable, without the normal bass deficiency you can have with other players... - although, I would certainly prefer to use a full sized rig for driving them...

Thanks Duncan. Glad to hear the E500s have some synergy with the X1000s. I'm considering the SA5000s and would use them with my desktop amp. Given that they're rated at only 70 ohms (relative to the 250 ohm DT880s), was curious how they pair unamped and if the volume needs to be maxed.

I notice that with my x1050 I need to crank the volume up much more compared to my Jap NW-A808. Using AKG81 and volume set above 20. Soundquality is great though, noticable leap beyond the already very good A808. Browser pretty useless, also no luck with connecting to youtube using the menu icon.

Could my volume be capped because it belongs the next batch of EU models? My Serial number is 5010113.

Welcome to Head-Fi - Great introduction, coming straight in with an X1000
smily_headphones1.gif

Until someone else comes in with the X1050, its hard to say - maybe the X1050s serial nos begin 501, and the X1060 begin 500, we will need someone else to get a X1050 to confirm...

What impedance are the AKG81s? - although, as you mention, having a JPN A808, there could be a difference there (although earlier in the thread it was mentioned that Sony don't bother with the volume cap anymore?!?)

Im a bit confused...
Some reviews state that the X series does not support lossless playback...But the tech specs point out it plays Linear PCM...I thought that is another acronym for WAV. Hence it does play lossless audio???

EDIT: Just got this from the Japanese website:

MP3

WMA※1

ATRAC
ビットレート:48 - 352 kbps(66※3/105※3/132kbps は ATRAC3)

ATRAC Advanced Lossless※4
ビットレート:64 - 352 kbps(132 kbps は ATRAC3 base layer)

1411 kbps

AAC※1

Hi PrinceofEgypt, it does support WAV/PCM which is uncompressed, but it doesn't support any compressed lossless, ie; FLAC, wma lossless...

PrinceOfEgypyt...

I am wondering if the other reviewers are referring to formats such as ALAC and AIFF, which this player does not support - but are more commonplace than WAV (even though that is the defacto standard, I doubt many people use it as it is such a resource hog!).

From what I understand from previous posts, when using WAV on the X1000, this then allows support for gapless playback, although - for me personally 320kbps rips are more than good enough, so I cannot say that as fact...

Edit: - Wow, quick draw McGraw - being beaten by both soozieq and walkingman...

Hello all,

For those that are interested in buying this player Play.com have dropped the price to £230 (possibly an indication that they won't have the stock as quickly as amazon?)

Anyway, i thought i'd let you know.

Play.com (UK) : Sony NWZ - X1060 X Series 32GB Walkman MP3 Player OLED : Electronics - Free Delivery

Wow, that's a great price. It's only £10 more than my A829 from a year ago! Maybe Amazon might lower the price too. When I cancelled my original Amazon orders (because Play was offering them for £249), Amazon then lowered the price to price-match Play, so I reordered from Amazon again. I still have a couple on pre-order for other people from Amazon but I'm pretty sure they won't want to wait any longer to get the cheaper price at Play

Impedance AKG81 is 32ohm so that might be it. It still needs to be cranked a bit higher(say 20-30%) to get the same loudness as my Jap NW-A808. No problem for me as it is still loud enough but it did made me check my serial number(5010113) and wonder if there might be a volume cap of some sort on it.. Service menu would be handy!

Also still unable to connect to youtube via the menu icon, normal www wireless further ok though. Do you need to be located in the UK to be able to use the Youtube icon?
