Hugo TT 2 by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

Please can someone tell me what the DX coaxial outputs on the TT2 are for. I thought they are for an upcoming digital amplifier.

I'd like to test them to make sure they are working fine. However I have no idea how to.

You are right about the DX outputs being for future connectivity, probably to a digital amplifier. As far as I know there is no way for you to test them.

I wondered if it might be safe to put a voltmeter across each one. However I guess the samples might be going too fast for a voltmeter to measure (one, zero, etc). Maybe an oscilloscope could see a square wave, but it would have to zoom in a long way. I don't have an oscilloscope anyway.

There are somethings in life that are worth worrying about but whether my TT2 DX outputs work isn't one of those things that I worry about.

Because it’s a table top a kind of room dsp would be nice.
Current set up needs one badly due to my concrete house and taste of my wife.
(Dspeaker anti mode 2.0)

Still waiting for my tt2 to arrive, 12 weeks and counting.

DSP has been something that I am interested in experimenting with plus I would like to drive my speakers direct from a TT2 in amp mode so a normal route of the source -> dsp module-> amp-> speakers I don't think would work in such a set up.

I have been looking at the Roon software recently and did notice they do include DSP engine which allows you to do some room correction via to the signal ahead of the dac (I'm not 100% sure of this as have only just started looking into it Roon) but it looks an interesting feature.

I have now atc scm19’s and don’t think they can be driven by the tt2.
When the tt2 arrives and want to check the active atc’s scm19a or scm20asl.
Now running a aurender-mojo-ca840a amp-dspeaker and the 19’s.
Would be very nice if the tt2 is capable to fire up the scm19’s but only 85 of those sensitive things and the sl driver is huge and probably hungry.
For sure gonna try ;)
PS bought an new concrete house (same wife )) so listening room is smaller.
Lots of changes but first the tt2.

One of my DX coax out it slightly off alignment. Chord Electronics have accepted a return to get it seen to, after seeing a photograph. (With a view to testing it and straightening it.) Rather than bother Rob Watts in Munich, and trying to avoid an RMA, I wanted to test my DX outputs.

I see no possible criticism in wanting to know a way to test the DX output. Even were there no issue. Better finding out now than down the line.

Maybe feed any (hi-res) DAC with its output signal to find out if it receives any signal.

I don't think anyone was criticising you. However JF does give the feeling that the TT3 will ship before the digital amps.
With that time horizon, I think worrying about the DX outputs is just causing you stress.

No pop on TT2 as the supercaps take a huge time to discharge.

Dear all,

I am new at this forum and looking forward to be part of it.

Just received the amazing Hugo TT2 and are confronted with a loud pop out of my loudspeakers after switch on/off.
I know that from my previous Naim amplifiers after switch on/off.
Maybe this is due to the fact that the monos are still on and have to switch off first?
Best way to leave it all on 24/7.
Nevertheless, do I have to worry about it because
Rob Watts mentioned in above post that this will not happens with TT2 due to the large supercaps?

The TT2 is connected via USB to my Melco and via XLR to my Ascendo Monos.
Also if I plug my headphones to the TT a quiet plop is noticeable.

Any thoughts are welcome.

Welcome. :)

You should ALWAYS switch off the amp first as the best practice. Think of it like this... the front of the audio chain is always the first on and the end of the audio chain is the first off. Conversely, as you've read, you can just leave the TT2 on and you won't run in to this issue.

fwiw the pop is a pretty common occurrence if you turn off a pre amp before the power amp. As long as you power on source-> pre amp-> power amp then power off in the opposite order power amp -> pre amp -> source then you should not experience any pops or thumps with your speakers.
