Hugo TT 2 by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

For Rob,

Are the dynamic current reserves from the supercaps employed in low gain mode with easy to drive loads should the need arise or is that just for the high gain setting and power hungry type headphones? many thanks mk.

It's not just the current reserves that the supercaps are useful, but in terms of isolating the active electronics from the mains power, as the supercap 30F and large inductor means the external PSU only supplies DC current - there is no AC component drawn. This with the RF filtering ensures the PSU is isolated and I strongly suspect this is a benefit too, as the audio related current is heavily distorted, and is a potential source of distortion through the amps power supply rejection ratio (PSRR).

If it were me, I'd get the Empyrean first, and then worry about the Mscaler at a later date. I always find headphones make the biggest difference, so going for the best pair you can afford and enjoy is a good idea.

Beg to differ. HMS first, usually transducers first, but HMS is a game changer.
I love Rob watts as you all know and I know ppl will say he would say that because he makes the product but he is the most genuine honest person I know and he says M scaler first but I've said to Roger I want both for all my av gear.8 k tvs are coming out now so I can't be bothered trying to keep up it's ridiculous.Oppo are finished now and Arcam Avr 850 will be a dinosaur in a few years, even if chord bring out the hugo TT 3 and M scaler gti model next mine will certainly not be a dinosaur.wasted millions buying av stuff

As stated before, maybe on HMS thread received TT2 this week together with HMS. Spent a little time with TT2 and found it to be a little disappointing compared to what I had expected in terms of my H2. I then connected the HMS, blown away, love it.

I can't post on m scaler thread, I'm gonna be buying one but won't be able to post so I'll be boring ppl to death on this thread.I owned the hugo 2 and the hugo TT 2 was a massive jump so if your saying the M scaler blown you away I think I'm gonna be knocked over.My heart is racing as I want the M scaler and Empyrean.I'm sick of ppl telling me that the M scaler makes a tiny difference, it doesn't hit you in the face

Hi Rob,

With easy to drive headphones ie high sensitivity and low impedence would you get better results using a lower volume on the high gain setting rather than using normal volume level on low gain? In my case my headphone is an easy to drive load but can also handle extra power through balanced connections.

IMHO HMS is in your face game changer, can’t understand why there are reports of ‘subtle improvements etc.’ There you go, and I’m a seriously old person.

maybe it depends what you were used to listening on before, headphones etc.

I don't agree. I bought the TT2, then sold my DAVE. I can tell you I don't miss the DAVE at all, plus I got an extra £2600 sitting in my account after selling the DAVE.

I do have an M-scaler so might be different if you're comparing DAVE and TT2 without the M-scaler.
anymore impressions ?

At the risk of making Paul throw up, I have to say that I too find the HMS effect very subtle. For me, there is absolutely nothing “in your face” about it. I can tell you that I find this really disappointing and frustrating! The TT2 sounds great with my LCD-4s but in all honesty I could easily live without HMS. I don’t know, could it be that there’s something wrong with mine, or is it just my getting-on-a-bit ears that are past their prime? I’m not sure how to find out....
