Hugo TT 2 by Chord Electronics - The Official Thread

I remember reading something about weird LCD-5 noises in the thread for that headphone. Could it be the same issue?
Yes... LCD-5 and Chord TT2 have a connection issue regarding humming heard through the Headphones. Usually on one side which may be the right hand side. It's a Grounding issue from the unit itself or its a power leak from the Mains Switched Adaptor. Either way, more efficient Grounding is required.

You need the 15V model not the 12V and the ifi Elite 15V is only 3.5A RMS, whereas the Chord supplied and TT2 spec calls for 4A RMS. I ordered the 15V ifi model and will try it next week when my TT2 arrives but just be aware of the points I made.
As a follow up the 15V / 3.5A ifi Power Elite I received will not power the TT2, there is a chance that the Elite is DOA and I have no way to test it so I am returning it but after further reading in this thread I am going to try the 12V / 4A model from ifi since the TT2 actually calls for 4A and I am thinking that is more important than the 15V on the TT2.

Here’s an idea…unplug the TT2 while you are listening, it should continue operating for 5-10seconds - is there still a hum?
The hum went away after unplugging. What's this mean :D

The factory power supply for the TT2 is rated at 15V, 4A. That is a different thing to saying that the TT2 actually calls for 4A. Whether the TT2 requires 4A at 15V is a different matter. I am assuming the max current required by the TT2 is at switch on when it is charging its super caps. In normal running the TT2 will certainly NOT require 4A current delivery at 15V.

You cannot compare amps without considering the voltage at the same time. 4A at 15v is NOT the same as 4A at 12V. For comparison with the supplies you mention,

15V x 4A = 60 watts max power supply (factory power supply)

12V x 4A = 48 watts max power supply (the other iFi supply you mention.

15V x 3.5A = 52.5 watts max power supply (iFi power elite)

The iFi power elite is therefore nearer to the factory supply in terms of power delivery.

My TT2 went down today as well after purchased new 7 months ago... I just rearranged my desk and reconnected some cables I guess, and afterward found the TT2 can't output any sound to the headphones jack anymore... It was working fine earlier today... The screen and the sample rate indicator light are working fine though. There is a static noise (never have heard before) when I plug in the headphones, the noise won't change along with volume control or start/stop of the streamer, beside the noise no music get played at all...

May I suggest a complete removal from your system and mains supply and leave for a few hours? Try again after that?

Thank you a ton for the detailed reply and thoughtful education, I appreciate it very much. I messaged with ifi a bit and am going to try another ifi 15v unit in the meantime.

What sample rate and how are you feeding TT2? I had this happen and realized Qobuz was feeding a sample rate higher than optical would transmit. Was worried mine had died for a minute, until I figured it out. Same kind of volume independent static.

My TT2 had the same problem after re-arranging my desk as well. I had to send it back to Chord and they repaired it, took a few weeks.

We do see these posts now and again, when owners reorganise their systems, or disconnect the cables to allow vacuuming etc, then reconnect everything again.
Like @zen87192 suggests, switch everything off and then try again after a few hours.

If the issue remains, then email support@chordelectonics.co.uk and see what they propose.

I think what we're learning from these experiences is that once your TT2 is setup and working, do not unplug or move it!
