The effective range is maybe calculated according to the size of an average living room in GB?
I still remember many many years ago, when I asked a friend who made and marketed his own HIFI systems, why his big horn speakers were not selling well in England and he answered have you seen an average living room over there?
Now knowing,no wonder so many here seem to be setting up desktop based mini speaker systems.

The Blu2 and Dave remotes both work well at distances of 6m which is how far I am from them at my listening position.

I’m having trouble at four to six feet and at any kind of angle. There’s no real use for the remote control for me so I am not that bothered.

It would be nice to have one remote for a DAVE and M Scaler though - I wonder if any of the programmable/OneForAll type remotes would be any good?

I do not think it is the remote that is the issue because a similar remote for the Dave works well at 6m distance in my sitting room.

Christer, as usual you are accidentally controversial but not always, sometimes it is intentional! :bikini:

My cheap as chips Japanese Amp has a splendid tactile and ergonomically designed remote that works perfectly from any angle including bouncing the signal off the ceiling when I cannot see in the dark, etc. :ghost:

I'd be curious to hear results from a learning universal remote. I use my phone but I've never looked for Chord IR codes

Now that sounds more promising and also indicating that you have a clearly above average size listening room compared to most of those I have seen in England.
Sounds like you have space for big speakers as well.
Enjoy.
Cheers Christer

got my mscaler, hooked up to hugo2 via wave bnc cables with hd800s, first impressions is that, the music is much more 3d, all the different layers in the song have their own vibrancy, it feels like songs have been remixed with the backing singers turned up for example, its much more vivid.
i can understand why rob says he doesn't want to go back to pre-mscaler if he can avoid it.
a few tracks i skipped past as they didn't seem to have any noticeable difference.
i think any music that has a lot going on with it will really benefit.
got the most joy so far out of the album Everything, Everything (live) Underworld. i'm basically being assaulted on all fronts.
theres is definitely a lot more information in the music, which i suppose is what we need if we want to get deeper immersion.

Yes I know, I can be unnecessarily nasty.
By the way ,did that" cheap as chips amp" you mention, also include the fish, salt and vineager, as well as a powerful remote?
I have a roughly 100lbs heavy amp combo with a remote that is not very good at all! No just point and shoot from my listening chair. I have to aim the damned thing very carefully indeed to make it work at all.
Sometimes I just give up and walk "all the way" up to the amp when I really want to fine-tune volume.
But I need the exercise. It is too easy to become a real heavy-weight couch potato as a HIFI nut.
I sometimes stand at the back of my listening room when listening via my biggy speakers when listening to Opera or other large scale music.
PS My Quetest DAC although designed mainly for stationary home use, came without a remote.A remote would have come in quite handy for changing filters and setting 1,3or 5V output from my recliner armchair. But I think there was one included with HUGO or maybe that was only with HUGO2?
I have to check my HUGO 1 box which actually included a handy little optical cable I have started to use with my cd players and Quetest though.
But there was no optical cable provided with my Quetest.
PS 2 What made that kitten sneeeze?
Cheers Christer
