Playing bitperfect on mine lately and been testing the headroom volume between -3dB and 0dB. It's probably the first software ever that I can't hear a difference between attenuated and passthrough, unlike Roon's headroom correction which is NOT transparent

So I bought a nvme usb 3.2 enclosure and a 256g nvme drive a few days ago for about $40 from Amazon, put Ubuntu 24.04 on it to run hqplayer desktop, boot to my 13600k 3080ti pc.

For the past few hqp updates, I used to have issues with windows 11 pro, hqp desktop would sometimes have issues switching filters or modulators or matrix settings on the fly, it really should take no time to switch but sometimes it would just stuck on for 15-20 seconds before switching, sometimes I even have to “wake up” Hqp by ctrl, alt, del and go to task manager. And sometimes I pause the playback and come back to it 15 minutes later and Hqp will take forever to start.

Switching to Ubuntu fixes all of that!!!!! Now everything is truly switched on the fly!!! I still can’t believe what a difference it makes just by switching hqp to Ubuntu!!!! And it’s amazing hqp offers in so many different platforms that I get to experiment it!!!

I have not had the time to read through it, I went in their website and was intimidated to see all these text in different colors and fonts......

Is there an easy enough step-by-step instructions somewhere?

Do you need to pay a fee every year or something?

I don't have it but I'm just updated with what some people do to max out the HQPlayer experience

Yes. It's an audiophile version of Linux and like Audirvana, uses RAM for everything to minimize jitter and noise. There should be step-by-step instructions somewhere there

We audiophiles are strange beasts!! It’s hard to imagine running a music playback system on Ubuntu with low latency kernels to NAA through sfp, usb to dac through intona is not niche enough and there’s still more for folks to explore further!!!

Using SOtM with Diretta and HQplayer, Diretta sounds more detailed with better timing on some songs.
I listen to wide variety of genres, except EDM and classical

Dac: Gustard R26 with LHY OCK 2
Current filter: Sinc L upsampling to 768 LNS515 and 15 bits.

Currently trying sinc long, somewhat close to Diretta.

Turn the bit depth up to 22 with the R26 for max transparency. sinc long is the most transparent filter. Or, the newer sinc long h. 768 and LNS15 are best

I think you should switch to DSD oversampling instead

Not with a Gustard R26. This is an R2R DAC. The DSD section is more of an afterthought.

With respect, I found the R26 did pretty well on DSD when provided an optimal operating environment (network, grounding, damping, RFI shielding tweaks, yadda yadda), if a bit of low level hiss on 44.1KHz rate family rates didn’t bother one that is.

I used to alternate between PCM and DSD depending on my mood and the content, in the end favoring PCM a little more IIRC.

Thanks guys,
Changed bits to 22, But still no luck.
Diretta sounds detailed and punchy too, bass hits tighter and harder.

Any other suggestions? I will start a test with no filters and no upsampling to see what gets me close to the Diretta sounds.
