HQPlayer Impressions and Settings Rolling Thread

For the k9 with the akm4499ex dac chip, 1) I am unsure if it supports 48k dsd, I would uncheck 48k dsd, and adaptive rate unchecked; 2) would recommend sdm output rate at 256x44 3) pcm
bit rate for akm can be set either 24 or default

This is my settings for the ifi pro idsd

Cześć, jestem nowym użytkownikiem HQ, ilość ustawień jest przytłaczająca, proszę o poradę odnośnie mojego Fiio k9 akm dac + Roon
The first and best thing you can do is get rid of Roon. Pure HQPlayer sounds much better than Roon, and better than Roon with audio output to HQPlayer. Convenient and beautiful interface of Roon is not worth the loss in sound quality that comes with it.

That is why jplay iOS hqplayer integration is the big news in digital audio this month!!

Before I had Roon or HQP I had jPlay ios and liked it a lot. Is it technically challenging to integrate jPlay and HQP?
No Chris at AS forum had made a post to show the 5 simple steps to setup jplay iOS with hqp. It’s the best Xmas gift for me!!! You can now control pretty much all hqp functionality in the jplay iOS app and use the iPhone physical volume to control hqp digital volume… not to mention it sounds way better than roon/hqp (as much as many roon users who had not tried jplay iOS like to deny that) I have recommended to 3 roon lifetime subscribers and all three joined the jplay iOS lifetime subscription immediately…

Wow Deric that’s impressive, Marcin has really done a thorough job and this would simplify things a lot since rt now in order to access hqp, because it’s on a remote headless mac mini, I have to screenshare from my mb air to make any changes, which is a PITA. How about dragging your Roon library over?

Yes Marcin has been extremely patient about this integration. Other than some glitches at launch, it’s really been rock solid. What’s better, this is native support of hqplayer, with essentially jplay doing remote control of hqplayer’s api so it is different from upnp or Roon.

Jplay ios also supports tidal connect so you now have full native support for tidal with Hqplayer!!!

It's nice to have both.
For casual listening, or when I am using my PC for other tasks that would compromise its ability to process DSD, I use Roon for PCM output (upped to 768K). I love the interface and the SQ is pretty decent.
For a hardcore listening session I will fire up HQP and DSD512/256 output.
Horses for courses and all that.

Which was exactly what the earlier discussion re: jplay iOS is all about. You now have a beautiful, easy to use, snappy interface that does not comprise quality for hqplayer

Do you know if there's a user guide for JPlay? The User Guide link in the app shows how to back up the app's database and that's it.
I have tracks that show a red radio button next to the file format, which seems to indicate the buffers are full. Any idea what buffers are being displayed and how to resolve the issue? I have HQP Output tab buffers set to default, but I'm not even sure this is the issue...

This might be your personal opinion but Jussi the developer has stated there is absolutely no difference either to his ears or from a technical perspective so please don't state this as a fact.

Roon makes the sound thin. But that’s not all—there are changes in the sound that are hard for me to describe in words. So, take the track Behemoth – Rom 5:8 and listen to it starting from the 50-second mark. Compare how it sounds in Roon versus HQPlayer. That’s exactly what I’m talking about. Here’s a link to the track:
I recommend finding it in FLAC.

I'm not trying to discredit your subjective experiences I'm just asking you to state them as subjective when advising newbies.
I don't hear a difference, but I am biased since to me it would be the same as hearing a difference between a music file stored on an SSD vs a hard drive..
