Hi all. this is not my first thread regarding this subject.  i want to use my computer so much as a transport to my dac,but i was having very hard time with asio4all plugin and never got it to work properly (pop noises switching between tracks).  it's a long story and i tried everything possibly in this universe!

...but nothing solved this problem,it seems that there is some sort of synch problem between the asio4all and my computer.
kernel streaming also doesn't work with my dac..

are there more alternatives?  is there a way to stop kernel mixer from resampling or bypass it in some other way?  maybe erase a specific file in order to do so..?   I will happy to hear any suggestions regarding this issue.

I will also like to hear more about other alternatives such as windows 7...will it worth to upgrade my operating system to 7 in order to make this happen.  as i understand with windows 7 i don't need asio.

How doesn't KS work with your DAC?  It should work fine with any driver-less DAC.

Alternatives are Win7, or a linux distro, if you're up for tinkering.  I can talk more about Win7, if that's the route you want to go, but basically you get access to a suprisingly robust OS and WASAPI which is wonderful.

thanks for the response.  I don't know..for some reason ks doesn't seem to work at all with my dac.  when trying to play song in foobar through ks it refuses to start playing the song.
anyway,I also read other threads discussing that most dac's doesn't supprt ks so i let it go.

i guess that win7 is the easy way to go,and i will get to upgrade my OS in the same time.
let's say i installed win7 on my computer...  what do i need to do in order to get bitperfect audio thourgh foobar?
I know that there are threads discussing this but i am not in a mood to search for them. thanks!

Just Foobar and the WASAPI component.  No foolin' with virtual devices or weird third party installers.  It's really really easy.

so i download the wasapi plugin for the foobar2000 and that's it?  do i need to setup anything in windows7?...maybe configure it for bitperfect playback or something?

Try this.

Control panel > Sounds, speech audio devices > Sounds and audio devices > Audio [make sure your DAC is default device] > Hardware > [Select your DAC] > Properties > Audio Devices > USB Audio devices [your DAC] > check boxes "Use audio features on this device" and "Do not map through this device"

ok..but what does it do basically? will it enable my dac to work with ks?

Nope, don't have to do a damn thing.  Just the WASAPI plug in, then select it and your device from the output list.

thanks,is it the same thing with vista?

Should be, but I really wouldn't recommend Vista to anyone.  It's a super slow and annoying beast compared to Win7.  Also, as a note, if you want Win XP-like behavior out of Win7, just go into the 'User Accounts' control panel, and click 'UAC/User Account Control settings' and disable it.  That way you don't have it asking you if it's allowed to do the things you tell it to.

Absolutely.  If you install it to a partition with information on it, it'll just stay too.  You NEED to insert the disk inside Win XP before you install, though, even with a fresh install, if you buy the upgrade.  You just run a prep in Win XP, and it'll do the rest.

Don't disable it. bad bad thing to do. UAC is fine once it's tweaked. Never turn it off though. UAC is quite good if you know what it does and what to tweak.

Why wouldn't one want to turn it off, really?  Mine is always off.

And if you say 'unwanted code being executed', I'm gonna laugh.
