and I am no headbanger

My Third was a little quieter than my Studio at the beginning,
now after a couple of weeks its about the same.
So more than enough to drive any headphone I have ever heard.

If only that amp was in the Nova N3.......

I think that the player sounds the best using WAV files. Yes, lossless is supposed to be the same but I believe the lack of conversion frees up resources. I know Jack of Hisound Audio also prefers WAV.

Congratulations!

Does it weigh the same as the Studio-V?

Yes, and more importantly, sounds a lot more neutral. The treble control is a lot better. No more unnecessary grains. I would call Studio 3rd VERY VERY neutral.

Just got word from Hisound that my Studio-V (not sure if it was fixed or replaced) is en route to me now.

I can't remember that last time I listened to this thing!! Can't wait to compare it to the DX50.

How do you like it next to the AK120 going from memory? Does it hold its own even against the 901 (for IEMs that is)?

IMO, as good as ak120 (on the last disappointing firmware I heard before I sold it) if not better. But still lacking against 901 in terms of ultimate detail, resolution, power, soundstage and neutrality.

So if you were to put that in percentages vs the convenience, portability and price tag what would you put the Hifiman at in terms of percentage being better overall? :). Are you going back to the 901 anytime soon? I've scratched the 901 off my list since being told the AK120 S mod with a good amp completely blows it out of the water. That this combo is as good as and in many cases better than desktop rigs .

Hmmm maybe I'm just doing something wrong but I'm in the 23-26 volume range even listening to FLACs on the internal memory using B&O H6 headphones. I'm not deaf as far as I know!

Clearly something is not right with the later versions of their firmware so looks like I need to install the earlier version recommended on here. When scrolling through folders I have to click for each one and cannot just press once and hold down to scroll and I'm also still experiencing the library issues previously described.

tbh at the moment I've gone back to my iPod Touch as my main sound source...

It's not really a mod. It's changing the allocation table size during format while updating. 4096 or 2048 are the preferred options. Shouldn't make a bit

of difference but....

I still preferred my AK120 that I may get back but hard to argue with the Anv3 and 1/3rd the price(or less).
