What about looking for a used RSA Dark Star?
I used to own it when I had the original HE-6 and sounded wonderful and is very powerful.

I jumped the gun and said the susvara had lack of bass. After a day or so, the bass and mid bass have arrived. It does extend down lower than the Utopia, is tighter and fast with lots of detail. As of now, overall still a bit less in amount than Utopia and comparatively the Utopia has a warmer signature which is helped by its midbass region.

I still find running the Sus from the wa22 a more pleasant sound than through the AHB2. From the AHB2, the highs seem clearer, and there is definitely better separation and width, but still seems a bit thinner in the mids and lows. As it is likely not from a lack of power, I guess as others have mentioned, probably due to the inherent sound sig of the AHB2. Don't think I want to give up on the AHB2 just yet, and since I'm in the camp of cable believers, I've ordered a custom speaker tap adaptor and a nice power cord from Pete at Triode Wire Labs. I will likely try another set of xlr cables too. I may be barking up the wrong tree.. But heck it's an excuse to buy new stuff so I guess that's just fine by me.

The HEKse and the HE6se benefited from 150hr burn-in, i guess the Susvara is the same, Also i think Currawong said they need burning in his review

The biggest difference I noticed between the bass on the susvara vs he1000se is that the susvara bass is pinpoint accurate and hits hard. The SE's bass adds a soft texture to the instruments while the susvara's bass recreates the instruments as if they were real physical objects. It feels like a tiny band is inside my head using my brain as a bongo.

I agree with your comments. I sold the HE1000se based on reading this thread and I have no regresas at all.....

It is not a bass heavy headphone. It will never be an Abyss, or even an HE-6 in that regard. However, the bass is deep and clean. If it is in the recording, it will come out in the headphones, but it will not invent it. I won't get started on wires. It is like talking politics or religion. Just ditch all the resistors and put your AHB2 on low gain with any wires that blow your skirt up..

I've always most enjoyed my Susvara with a couple db boost in the low end via EQ. Just me though, I know that might not be up others alley.

Yes. Perhaps for chamber music its not needed, but I don't think turning it into a Phi would work, is wise, or would sound right. I've got the HEX v2, HE6se, and HE-500 and they all do better with a bit of boost. I haven't had an EQ on one, but I'd guess something like 32 Hz +2.0 db Q 1.00 might work well.

Very excited, my Susvara arrives in a couple days. Coming from the Fostex TH900mk2. Hopefully I'm in for a nice surprise!

Lumin U1 ----> PrimaLuna EVO100 DAC ----> McIntosh MHA150 (Speaker Taps)

There are some songs like Thousand Years from Sting or Sail Away of David Gray that have this deep bass and the Susvara reproduced it masterfully.
I do not own a Susvara, but those two are excellent tracks, especially the former. When I heard the 'Nitin Sawheny mix' of A Thousand Years on my TC, my personal jaws dropped. Instantly became one of my favorites. Bass feels super taut to me. Music felt like some movie.

Thank You for pointing them out! I hope to see more awesome recommendations from the Head-Fi community members.

P.S.: Apologies for the sudden intrusion. Please carry on.

I really like their sound out of my two amplifiers (PrimaLuna Dialogue Premium HP and Wells Audio Enigma).
If you can find them in the used market you get a lot of value for the money.
For the Primaluna are you going out the speaker taps? If so which OHM taps?

thx

No I am not. I am using the headphones output.
This model of PrimaLuna uses the same tubes output of the speakers for the headphones just with some resistors to lower the power. It has 6.54 watts @ 64 ohms.

Let me know what do you think....
I have the MHA100 and tried the Susvara yesterday with both the headphones output set to High 150-600 ohms and also the speakers tab.
McIntosh told me to use that High setting for the HE-6 because it the one that produces the higher output through the headphones connection.

It seems like the speaker tabs have just a tiny bit more power and I notice it a little bit in the bass.

Even that out of the speaker tabs is about the same power than the PrimaLuna out of the headphones output I personally like the sound better with the PrimaLuna. IMO is more holographic and the bass is more extended and impactful. I also prefer the Enigma.

This could just be me based on my hearing and test of sound. Let me know what do you think.
