HiFiMan Susvara

I’m not sure there is such a category as “budget” power regenerators, as not many companies make them. I’m only aware of PS Audio still making them for audio use at present.

Anybody got an opinion on budget regenerators for the susvara from a UK pov?
how about just getting some conditioner like IsoTek (various cheaper models in the few hundreds)

Power regenerators are rather costly I'm affraid, so instead I encourage you to take a look at power strips with some active elements in them designed to combat noise. Hope this helps, thanks!

Hi all, thanks for your responses.
I have heard that opinions on power conditioners are mixed.
Im gonna have to keep an eye out for a second hand one.
The older regenerators are available for "cheap" but they are so gigantic.

Also, the heat.

Maybe I wait for the more premium regenerators to come down in price :)

What specific problems do you have with your AC power? Different approaches might be necessary for different problems. You'd better figure out problems and root causes as thoroughly as possible before spending much. I do think having decent power strip (not necessarily $$$ ones) with quality receptacles is mostly not bad tho.

There's something there for sure. Many reviewers with very expensive setups actually avoid power conditioners and regenerators and use only passive power strips.

I just move close to the power distribution nodes. Then break in and install a 0 gauge cable right to each component I have. Get rid of the middle man. Hint: Keep the cables well hidden.

I remember the first PS and the strips with the filters and battery powered fail overs. Lived with some, kept hearing that if I spent real money and stopped messing with toys - i'd be happy. Maybe they work. Didn't feel in my case it helped. My problem was variant AC at two discrete periods in time about 20 years apart, and some nasty poorly wound tarnished aluminum cabling in my home. I ended up putting in fresh O2 free 6 ga copper and new plugs from my board to my equipment - now that was an improvement.

I got more out of those ifi ac thingy than an expensive conditioner. So I guess ifi worked for me. Power conditioning
is very much ymmv

This is perfect. Thank you.

I am no specialist, I just kindof buy that there will be small differences in the current when it is generated miles away.
I have generally heard positive reviews of regenerators from people that have tried them.
Does anybody here use a regenerator? Heard a difference?

The big drawback, is that having a class A amplifier already, I dont want to add any more heat to the system.

The way I view such gears is it's not always magically good. It can be beneficial if those gears can address the very exact power troubles. Also in other words, no matter what those gears are called, almost most are filters imho -- with different sizes/complexities.

I've used PS audio P3 before. They visually looked cool but I didn't find sonic benefits much, although they didn't sound particularly bad because I didn't use current-hungry dacs/amps atm (regens have their own capacity so they may limit current). Having a dedicated power outlet for audio gears was way more effective to ensure clean power IME.

Nonetheless I'm very generous toward quality power strips not because they immediately sound good but because low-end (cheap and generic) power strips have very poor internals and parts quality.

I use a P3, and it was a win for me, generally cleaner overall sound.
having said that this is what my power looks like without it, and my headphone setup pulls about 250W when it's on.

Having said that I've had good experience with the Ifi active units and their active cable on my secondary system, which doesn't have a regenerator.
