Hifiman RE262 Initial Impressions

Here are the tips that seal well for me, as indicated by the Sensaphonic's test; and the container I use to carry extra or backup tips in. The container is from Comply packaging.
 
Best tips for me is the mounted one first, the dual flange on the desk second. Kind of equal to each other is a MeElectronics tip (that might be from an M11+); then there are the Monster gel and foam tips. The two flanged tips that come with the Hifiman seal just that tiny bit better for me than the others. Worn over ear in all cases. 
 

 
 

 

 
 
 
While I had the camera out, here is a solution to override the Hifiman's useless neck slider. It's working for me.
 
Take a label from a bag or shirt; the kind with an acetate fabric kind of feel to it. Trim to size; wrap tightly, cellophane tape it for a temporary hold. I happened to have gaffer's tape on hand, so I used that for the outside wrap. The slippery inside is kind to and works well with the somewhat tacky to the touch wires; the outside texture offers an easy finger grip. Black Sharpie took care of the white frayed edges of the gaffer's tape.

Nope, definitely different than the ones I received years ago with my 262.  I have ordered a couple of the biflanger and filter packages in the last year because I wanted them for other IEMs.  Still the next best alternative for my ears.  I tried a lot of the other tip brands listed in this thread and in the end the O.G. worked best but I had to try these other ones before I could determine the winner.  Custom molds built onto the 262 housing would be an interesting way to go but the molds would be as expensive as the IEM.  
 
Been enjoying the 262 with the Dragonfly.  Can't say it beats my previous configuration of iPhone + 2Stepdance + 262 but for travel, especially flying, I like doing work on my laptop with the 262 + DF.

Just got mine and almost had a heart-attack.... Seems directly connecting the RE262 to my Studio V will leave you with no right channel.... Then I tried the one of the adapters and the same thing.... Then the other two adapters work. I find one of the black ones to bring the most balance while the one with the white tip focuses more on the mid range. I was gonna be pissed if this was the second product in a row from head-direct to come to my house with the right channel dead lol (Hifiman 601).

The black cable with white tip is channel reversing left and right so you can use the RE 262 reversed and loop them around the ear. The other one that worked with your players is not reversed. That's probably why you hear them to be different.  The third adapter and without adapter is meant to be used with an amp with a balanced output, check the four pins. So it won't work with any normal DAP etc.

But I'm curious why is one channel missing if I do a direct connect without the adapter on the Studio V?

 Because it's a balanced 4-pin.

That's strange. None of my DAP's, Studio-V included, does that, maybe it accepts balanced pins.

Just that alone made me even more pissed off lol thinking they were defective.... But put yourself in my shoes having a 601 come with the right channel dead straight out of the box lol and from the same seller and thinking you having the same issue again rflmao .

Well, then you could have had a 601 with the left channel working and a pair of RE262 with the right channel working, what else could you have asked for

I couldn't help myself and had to stop with the burn-in and listen to them.  They sound much more, how do I say it, more realistic than when I first heard them.  What I mean by that is they don't sound quite as colored as they did, there's still coloration to them but its much more subtle than out of the box.  Bass sounds tighter with a pretty good amount of depth to it as well as highs that have more sparkle to them now.  The burn-in has helped improve the sound a lot, much more than I ever would have expected that's for sure.

I didn't like them to much at first either but they've grown on me over the past 12 hours or so and I'm starting to really appreciate what they can do.  Its not unlike the GR07 in that they might not wow you at first but give them time and you can start to understand what they can do.
