Playing dff files sometime will have skipping problem.. And when u scroll with wheel will hear pops..

Has anyone compared the mini box gold and the balanced amp cards? Any impressions will be helpful.

Ordered the 901s should be here next week I chose the balanced card as that seemed the version selected by most.
 
Any suggestions for the sd card I don't have a lot of music maybe 500 songs currently but nothing in high quality format.
 
My phones are UE Ciem and Audeze LCD-2,  i'll be surprised if the 901s can effectively power the Audeze so I may
need some amplification.
 
Thanks to all who posted in this thread I based my choice on the positive comments.
 
My final three choices were:
 
Sony ZX2-  excluded because of battery longevity and no clear path to battery replacement.
 
AK 240-  excluded because of price although I liked it a lot 
 
Hifiman HM 901s  my selection.

You will be surprised. Running balanced, the 901s can compete with many high qualty desktop amps for powering Audeze's. You will need a 3.5 mm TRRS to 4 pinXLR female adapter to run the Audeze's balanced.
 
For SD card I use Sandisk & PNY .

Agree regarding HM901 w/ Balanced amp running LCD-2. I even think it does a surprisingly good job with HE-6.
 
I use Sandisk and Kingston SD cards. No need for ultra-fast cards, but the slower ones might give longer scan times (and certainly longer transfer times).

I am very interested in buying the balanced card, but I want to be sure it does a good job with the LCD 3/2. Some people think that driving a headphone is all about volume. In fact, to me a capable amp is the one that can enhance the sound of a headphone specially at low volume levels. I have the 901s with the standard card. Volume is not a problem, the standard card has plenty of volume, much more than I need. However, the highs are very, very shy, the bass is there but not tight at all and the mids don't have the magic every body talks about.

When I use my LCD3 with my desktop amp and dac, the sound of these headphones completely change in a very good way. The highs are extended, the bass is faster and more defined and the mids are just perfect in my opinion. The sound is more spacious in general, not at the HD800 level obviously, but very spacious when well amplified.

The whole idea is to see if the the 901s with the balanced cad can do a good job with the LCD 3 while portable. In other words, when I am washing the dishes or when I want to walk around the house.

That's good news because while the LCD's worked  with my Iphnone 6  the sound quality was remote at best.
