Hifiman HM-801 help

Are you sure the SD reader is DOA? The thing is, the SD card reader on HM801 is quite picky on the brand and speed of the SD card. Just thought I mention in case someone else has the same problem.

Wow, this is a sad story. It "seems" that both Head-Direct and Fang at HiFiMan are unwilling to help. There is this continuing theme about audio equipment on Head-Fi recently: Poor Customer Service. Check out the JH-Audio JH-3A thread for more of the same.

You sure can draw a lot of info from a minimum source.

For $800, it should work with just about any SD card.

Just unfortunate that it isn't a $800 SD card reader.

Yeah, I'm sure.  I went and bought a couple of different SD cards to test.  And Head-direct thought I was doing something wrong, but then they confirmed the SD card readers were dead.  I ended up just going with a 602.  But that was after about $100 worth of shipping fees!

I really wish there was a HiFi portable alternative from a more reliable company.  The 602 sounds amazing!  But if anything goes wrong, it's going to cost you.  And getting questions answered is a joke.  I've looked into the Colorfly Pocket HiFi but I worry about the same problem.

$100 shipping is quite a lot. I have sent a demo set of HM801 back to China for much much less than that.

I just keep a pair of dedicated IEM's (in this case, my 535's) always plugged in and wrapped around the 801, so I don't have to worry about this.

Someone let me burrow 801 for 2 weeks?  I don't want to buy this and end up not liking it.

But, shipping would be a pain, and expensive.  Isn't it being shipped from China?  It would try it if Amazon sold it.
