To be fair, 83.5Db sensitivity screams desktop amp to me.

I can indeed run my DT880 (600 Ohm) and T60 Argons off my DAP, or in a pinch, even my phone, but they won't sound great.

Those headphones do look interesting and I see an open box on HiFiman's site...

4 wpc @ 50 ohms would be the minimum. 8 is safe. Few DAP's and no cells can do that.

Every speaker and headphone with Mylar needs some - in my case that's dozens of examples.

Hard to verify if you plug them in and listen to nothing else for 200 hours straight. I learned the best way to check for me is play them for 10 hours not present. Then 1 hr, but that hr is surrounded by an hour on each side using ones references playing the same recordings.

An Accustat I broke in during the 80's took about 250 hours (tubes & caps too) but next longest was about 150 hrs. A simple FR test won't show it. On a parallel line sub woofers change with break-in and that can be measured. Also caps used in speaker xovers for tweeters need break in and in my experience (ribbons and higher end caps) that is very easy to hear. Use a $3 cap and $12 tweeter? Dunno.

yeah when you put them on they make noise, basically if headband is being flexed at all it squeaks

Same with my Elex's. They are like a year and a half old and creak every time I put them on, take them off or even move them around. In ordinary operation they are quiet and sound Great, so I just try to ignore.

Ahhhhhh, we just got an offer accepted on a house we want to buy! Now we go through the inspection and appraisal stuff, hopefully it all goes smoothly and we'll get to close on the new house in about May or so, and then I'll have fulfilled my promise to my wife about not buying any more headphones until we bought a house. And then I finally get to join the HE6se V2 club!

The new Hifiman EF400 does a surprisingly excellent job of driving these. R2R DAC with an amp that pushes 4.4wpc for $600, with $100 off with proof of purchase of another Hifiman product (premium products, 6SEv2 counts), a pretty solid performer.
