So price has been unofficially announced yet again (based on Jude's information) and all hell breaks loose because the headphones are $3k

I don't see the problem, if they are as good as everyone is saying, including Jude, there is no reason for such great headphones to cost less, they're supposed to be better than HD800 even in terms of imaging.

There will always be less expensive and more expensive items in this world, stop complaining, if it's worth it and you want it, buy it, if it's not worth it and you're just there to troll then shut up... get a less expensive headphone and be happy with it, if you know that this item is worth it but still complain about the price, get a life.

Alleluia!!!

Do you think the Ragnarok will be able to power these beasts to their max potential, or would you need to get the EF-1000 too? If your talking 11k for the full setup, no friggin way! I could see doing 3k for the headphones alone though if the Ragnarok would work well with them.

I listened using the EF-6 and sounded beautiful. I am planning on using my MHA100 and WA5-LE.

Hi Everyone just thought I'd post my impressions of the HE1000 after stoping by StereoExchange on Thursday.  I took out my iPod/USB/Chord Hugo and played some of my own personal bass-heavy electronic productions (in 24 bit wav format) through the HE1000.  As an owner of an LCD-3F and HD800 with Moon Audio cable upgrades, all I can say is wow, the HE1000 to my ears was like a combination of the best aspects of these two headphones then with everything kicked up a notch or two.  The mids and highs were incredibly clear and defined in the soundstage like the HD800 but had a certain liveliness I don't think I've experienced with my other top-tier headphones.  There was no harshness. Most impressive though personally was the low end had an incredible level of intensity and detail with respect to tone and timing; I could hear all the detail and separation between the baseline and kick in my productions with the fullness and intensity I get with the LCD-3 but with a lot more definition and even more power.  Even closer to the experience of techno on a Funktion One or other high-end club sound system which is the holy grail by some dance music afficionados.  Also really comfortable and light, and the Hugo performed well driving these headphones for sure.  To be fair I didn't switch back and forth between these headphones and the aforementioned competitors (something I'd like to do on a less busy day at the store, perhaps via the MHA100), but initial impressions are that the HE1000 likely has them beat by at least some margin if your listening preferences are similar to mine.  I might still prefer the LCD-3F if I want a more relaxed, warm and laid-back experience on a lazy afternoon, but for the full intensity experience I see the HE1000 in my future.

LOL another dealer offering a headphone for pre-order with NO warranty information.
Is it just me of would anybody else expect this tiny piece of info be essential before forking out that kind of money?

Besides that, we are still talking about a pre-production version of the HE1000. It's a further development from the earliest publicly shown prototype (CES and Jan.'15 NYC meeeting) but the phones are not in production yet. At least this is how I gather the info available right now

I think it is common practice for dealers to put up listing for upcoming headphones to gauge interest. There were pre-orders for the EL-8 too before they were 100% officially announced.

The warranty will be at least in line with Hifiman's current products. I do personally hope for additional warranty considering the considerable expense.

And yes, this is still a pre-production version I think. Probably won't be til May-ish earliest, most likely much much later before an official release.

Agree that these need a longer warranty. You can't ask these prices without it I think.

Can't believe no one commented on the hilarious image I made.

120dB is probably on the high side, but if you are buying a new amp, its better to play it safe and have a bit extra. Also those occasional crazy peaks you mention, you have to be able to handle those too, or it will clip/distort, can't just ignore them.

Even the $99 Magni 2 can easily handle that, so anyone buying this $3,000 headphone will have no trouble amplifying it.

I want to hear some recorded samples of peaks with and without the extra power to handle 120 dB.

Judging by what I've read up to now you're not gonna .. not this time.

And it's quite a stretch to say that someone who likes the best HP ever is a fanboy. Never heard of anyone who did not like the 009... or thought that some other can did sound better. Even people who enjoy diff colorations (e.g. bassheads) do appreciate it.

I know at least a handful of people who dislike it. It's just that most people like it a lot.

Headphones I think sound better than the SR-009:
SR-Omega, SR-007mk1, HE-90 Orpheus, Abyss, modified Jades.

So now you've heard of someone.
There are others who feel this way, too. I could introduce you. :)

The SR-009 is no doubt an impressive headphone. In some ways it's nearly unrivaled (like transparency).
However it's not "the best." There is no single best headphone.

I hope to be like you someday -- able to afford a collection of the most exotic headphones!

In terms of accuracy and realism, in what ways do you think those other headphones surpass the SR-009?

Ok I might have overstepped a bit. The air is very rarefied at that level and a lot comes down to preference. I'm a fan of clean, transparent, lifelike sound so it's 009 for me. It's the closest I heard to a live acoustic music performance. Everything else you listed (never heard a Jade) has more coloration...and as much as I like some of those, it's still artificial sound. And that's why I called 009 'the best' .. which is not the same as 'the most enjoyable for everyone'. That of course does not exist ... and never will.

My perspective is that some headphones will reproduce certain things more accurately than even the most transparent headphones. There are always going to be drawbacks. That's why I like having different headphones for different purposes.

If the Stax mafia could organize some bass slam for the 009 (it has zero), it would indeed be perfect. Although, I did feel the vocals were so super clean they did seem a little artificial and lacked texture at times, but that was not using the best setup so I won't blame the 009 for that just yet (HA-1 dac/Stax amp, the 727 I think).

On some amps, the slam/impact is competitive with planar magnetics. (Even Tyll said "These hit amazingly hard.") With the Smyth Realiser A8, it can be even more.

(Sorry to resort to hearsay, but I very often see people praise the bass and impact of the SR-009, so I just wanted to clarify this.)

Not for me, it had lots of extended deep bass but zero bass slam, was very obvious listening to an LCDX straight after.
