Hifiman HE1000 Planar Dynamic Headphone

Oh my.... Look what I have found in German forums, looks like HE1000v2 Stealth is indeed very close to HE1000se if not exactly same :

"After 30 minutes with the new V2 Stealth compared to my SE I hear no, but really no difference, not even minimal.
They are also absolutely identical in terms of volume, on the R28, low gain, both at 62, sounds the same to me, I can't measure it.

But what I can say:
quality or not, Hifiman makes wonderful headphones.
I've only heard dynamic for the last 4 weeks, the Atrium and then the Auteur and the 109 Pro.
All wonderful headphones, but when you have the Hifiman on your ears again...

I'm curious to see if anything will happen again in the next few hours, in my opinion."

Interesting.

But surprising that he thinks they are equally loud. The SE has 96db sensitivity, Stealth 93db.

Interesting, so who would buy more expensive SE now.
And how that affects crowd vastly preferring older non Stealth V2 to SE.

only Hifiman support can answer what is the difference between SE and the other Stealth versions... the SE is stealth.... what will the other stealth version be .... and we still don't know how close the sound sig is to the Susvara..... if they create a cheaper and easier to drive Susvara they have a few possible customers waiting

I can't imagine that the SE and the Stealth sound the same. The arrangement of the magnets is completely different.
But this is just speculation, I have never heard the SE.

Tomorrow I will write the dealer, where the Sus remains.

It may be that he perceived it that way.
I don't want to judge that. I have had different experiences.

Irrespective of his statements, for me an A/B comparison can only be taken seriously if the following procedure is observed:

1. The FR is the same. I do NOT want the tonality comparison, but the technical performance.
2. The volume is identical. Just 1dB more brings a big advantage.

Short version:
- HE1000v2 Stealth - smaller soundstage, tighter bass
- HE models with Stealth magnets lost their unique signature and sound all alike

None of this sound good to me.
I agree. The worst part of this is Arya V2 and HE1000v2 is being discontinued. So what makes Hifiman unique (Huge soundstage but good bass, not thin sounding like HD800) is gone. I decided to buy regular HE1000v2 instead of the new stealth version while it's still obtainable. I am worried about the path Hifiman chose. I may even buy and keep a Arya V2 on the side as a backup just in case.

I had 3 stealth models. Sundara, Arya,
HE-1000.
All had their personal character, despite Harman.

Don't take me wrong, I am not discrediting or hating on stealth magnet versions of Hifiman Headphones. I just "prefer" the non-stealth versions.

Arya V2 for example, IMHO vastly preferable to Arya Stealth. Arya V2 has an amazing Soundstage with beautiful bass, which is what makes Hifiman unique I believe. Arya Stealth was disappointment for me, despite it is technically better (bass and imaging especially) I felt like it is too much "in your face". But if I didnt care much about soundstage and prioritized other qualities I think there are better options than Arya Stealth with other brands.

Also quite interesting.

Post in thread 'Ananda stealth vs. Edition XS?' https://audiosciencereview.com/foru...anda-stealth-vs-edition-xs.38484/post-1414142

he had almost the whole range at home and sent the Susvara back first.

In the end, only one thing counts: your own experience.
That post also has good comparison between HEKV2 (non Stealth) and HEKSE (which might be close to what HEKV2 Stealth sounds like now)

Both the HEKV2 and HEKse are extraordinary. Impeccable build, fantastic design, amazing elasticity in their fit and as comfortable as any headphone I’ve ever tried. They both have their respective strengths—the HEKV2 has a bit wider soundstage, a formidable sub bass and smooth highs with zero fatigue factor. Crinacle ranks them in the top three for good reason—they’re damn near perfect, although they are marginally outdone by the HEKse and Susvara in detail retrieval.

The HEKse is perhaps the fastest and most detailed headphone I’ve ever heard. Imaging is jaw dropping. So is timbre. They’re so resolving that I had the cliche of hearing things in the mix I’d never heard before in songs I’ve listened to a million times. They have more emphasis in the mid bass than the HEKV2, which provides a bit more warmth and fullness, but with just a shade less slam than the HEKV2. They’re also a bit easier to drive with their sensitivity of 96 (vs 90 for the V2).

But they have a hump in the 5-8,000 hz range, which likely contributes to their detail but can be a bit bright and fatiguing on some tracks, which is not the case for the HEKV2s at all.
