Has anyone here upgraded their HE6 cables with third party cables? If yes, with what cables and how is it with the cables?

I am using the Zeus from aphroditecu29.com and love it. Very light, great sound and fair price.
I used to have hte DHC Complement in my HD800 and made an A/B with the Zeus. I could not hear the difference with the Zeus costing about half the price and a fraction of the weight. I kept the Zeus and sold the Complement.

I've considered an aftermarket cable for the HE-6.
But, having seen the gage and "quality" of the wiring between the jack and driver tabs, I'm not sure how much improvement can be had.
So, hard-wiring is the only option for me.  And I'm strongly considering it.

I am receiving today Robert's (aphroditecu29.com) personal HE-6 hard wired with his Zeus to try them. According to him it makes a huge difference. I will A/B HE-6 Zeus hardwire v.s. HE-6 Zeus (mine). If there is really a difference I will send him mine to be hard wired.

I was deciding between ALO HE6 cables and the DHC cables.
Do you mind telling me how it makes the HE6 sound like and are you using the DHC with bananas?

Does anyone have an experience with the ALO copper cables for the HE6?

Thanks.

The stock cable is of high quality but it may be too thin of a gauge. I find in general that the smaller gauge headphone cables can have a negative effect on the sound, mostly in the bass region. When I hooked up the DHM cable I noticed a fuller sound. But another huge reason I bought the DHM cable was that my cat was attracted to the stock cable insulation and was chewing on it :^(

Interesting that you ask about the ALO cables and banana plugs as well, as I am using a custom-made (by Craig) ALO cable for my XLR to banana plug adapter. It was a lot more $ than the british one that was just posted but is of extremely high quality. I might have gone for a straight to banana plug adapter headphone cable (Double Helix can definitely do this kind of termination, just PM Peter or e-mail him if it's not an option on his website) if I didn't also have a K1000 to drive out of the same rig. So I am mixing the two flavors :^)

I agree with you. I audion a LF at my home for 3 weeks and I really liked it with all my headphones BUT IMO (like yours) I think does not have all the juice needed for the HE-6 to really shine.

Yea it's definitely not all about power with the HE-6, but adequate power is a necessary component and in my system it requires about the same amount as the K1000; there isn't much difference in the volume settings when I switch between headphones. IMO the HE-6 needs at least twice the power of the LF to perform at it's best. The consensus is that the Dark Star is the best amp to date for the HE-6, but RSA quotes their power specs as voltage and current rather that in watts which may be telling as far as actual synergy goes with these cans.

Does anybody know the WPC>Ohms spec for the Dark Star?

Nice looking Yammie. I haven't had the opportunity to try anything from the NS range - so very interested to hear what you think. Hope it works out good for you.

It sure looks nice and the cosmetic condition is a 9, one owner unit. It's rated at  20 watts (puts out 24w) in Class A - 120 watts AB so lets see how it performs with the HE-6.

And if I feel adventurous enough I might hard wire the HE-6 this weekend.

For aftermarket cables, I got them done by Steve Eddy at Q.  The HE-6 Aftermarket Cable thread is here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/552059/he-6-owners-which-aftermarket-cable-do-you-use

I posted a bunch of pictures of the cables he made for me: http://www.head-fi.org/t/552059/he-6-owners-which-aftermarket-cable-do-you-use/15#post_7584131

Warp08 did have his headphones hardwired.  It was done by Craig at Whiplash.  He told me the rewire cost almost as much as the headphones themselves, so I'd forgo that option unless you have a lot of disposable income.

Yeah baby, the bass is back. There is no problem driving the HE-6 in the Class A mode which I prefer. Nine o'clock on the dial is plenty for average listening. More snap on the low end, sweeter in the mids and smooth detailed highs compared to the AB mode. And as an added bonus I got the dynamics I was missing so much. Now to see what heavier gauge wire would do on the weekend.

X2 on Q cables. I have one with 4 pin mini xlr's on both ends and use them with the HE-6 with adapters I made myself.
Steve is good people as well, really good to deal with.
