I'm running them naked, any obstruction will affect the frequency response, usually adding to the 10kHz "tizz".

Thanks, Cskippy. I did reference calmed treble, but am surprised at the better bass, and what seems like just more dynamics, from swapping the grill. There is not much to this new grill, but I'd be hesitant to go naked and risk damaging a driver for a HP no longer in production.

Thanks! How did you end up securing them?

If you remove just a little at a time from all four tabs you can make these "snap fit" where they are interference fit in the well where the original grill went, and fits perfectly in depth (as you likely know).  If you do another set, try taking less off to start and fine tune the fit.

Thanks. I think that would work to get something tighter. I'm ok now with felt in the gap between grill and headphone. No movement now. These things have never sounded better. When I first removed the outer damping material, I tried naked and with the stock grill off vs on, and didn't perceive a real difference. But now I get calmer treble, more bass impact, and greater dynamics. Really incredible. This ,of may have more impact than the blu-tack, which I thought was great.

What's the preferred source for speaker taps to 4pin xlr cables? Just ordered a panache and eager to power he6 through the taps alone.

How powerful is the amplifier for starters? I just got an HE-Adapter with my second HE6 that's going onto my Bryston for impedance matching sake and noise filtering, but you don't have to do this if the Amplifier is under 75w @ 8ohm, otherwise i would get it so the load from the amp doesn't blow your headphones or vise-versa (paraphrasing the owners manual.)

If you want just a straight connection from the amp, these are good to start otherwise you would have to look at more expensive custom options I'm thinking:

-Cheap One: http://www.ebay.com/itm/112266098555?rmvSB=true
-Braided, Longer, more expensive: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Balanced-XLR-to-SPEAKER-TAPS-PINS-HE4-HE5-HE6-HE5LE-HE500-cable-adapter-hifiman-/172391874411

The Panache is 100W into 8 ohms.

The Panache is 100W into 8 ohms. Would it be a problem even if I kept the volume knob at zero and slowly experimented from there? These are what the speaker taps look like. I confess I'm not familiar with the variety of ways one connects wires directly to speaker taps. I've heard of banana plugs, but I'm not sure what the other methods are, or indeed which one the Panache uses. I recall someone once said that the HE adaptor was for tube amps, not solid state amps. Not sure whether that's true.
