I would say the Deckard should work since its designed to drive planar headphone but I haven't tried one out yetI can grab these quite cheap in the UK at the moment, wondering if my Audeze Deckard has the guts for them?

Of all the hp's I've tried & owned the 560's are the hardest to drive but they sure do sound nice when you pair them with the right amp..enjoy

Currently driving my 560s from Mody Multibit to Project Ember (12AU7 RCA Cleartop). I'm wondering if anyone uses the Ember and what tube are preferred for the 560s.

I don't own that amp but it sure is a cool looking amp with lots of power, when I had my wa7/tp it also used 12au7's but the tube I really enjoyed was the Mullard cv4003 it's by far the finest sounding of the 12au7 variants..enjoy

I didn't know the WA7 could take 12AU7 tube in the amp cube, was there a design change over the years? I had a WA7d when they first came out and it was held back by the DAC section so I sold it after a few months of owning it. It had to be one of the most impressive looking amps to be displayed on a table top.I don't own that amp but it sure is a cool looking amp with lots of power, when I had my wa7/tp it also used 12au7's but the tube I really enjoyed was the Mullard cv4003 it's by far the finest sounding of the 12au7 variants..enjoy

Anyone with both the HE560 and HD800S who care to elaborate a bit about similarities and differences?
Unfortunately I'm not getting "search this thread" to work on this wonderful new platform.....

I drive the HE-560 with two amps, one all-tube (SinglePower MPX3) and one hybrid (a Fitz-improved Bada PH-12). Both use 3x 6SN7 tubes.
As stated before, I strongly prefer the sound of the 560 with tubes upstream.
Since the Stax SR-507 arrived, however, the HE-560 have gotten little eartime.

Has anybody tried running the HE560 with nothing but a AudioQuest DragonFly Red or Meridian Explorer2? Impressions?

Have run the HE-560 with the Emotiva Little Ego.
Bass was weak and things sounded thin.

I've only compared the HE560 and HD800S once and its been a while but this is what I remember.Anyone with both the HE560 and HD800S who care to elaborate a bit about similarities and differences?

The HD800S still has the overly wide sound stage like the HD800 and with some vocal centric tracks it can make the vocals sound a little weird to me. While the bass is slightly improved over the HD800 its still does not seem to go as low or have the same weight like the bass of the HE560. There is enough of a difference between the HD800 and HD800S to me that I would consider owning both but driven with different amps to get the most out of each, tubes with the HD800 and SS with the HD800S. Also, the HE560 does not have the airiness of the HD800S which can be good or bad depending on what one prefers but the HD800S doesn't have the fullness in the mids that the HE560 has IMO.

Thanks David! It seems as if there should be a place for both in my collection, which is good since I've got a HD800S on the way I was really debating over HD800 vs HD800S but in the end I chose the S since. I was afraid of the highs on the original (I had to mod my HD700 to fully enjoy them). The original 800 can be picked up pretty cheap used now so may be one day....
I'm really loving the HE560 with Alpha pads so it will be interesting to see how the S holds up to my ears.

Anyone experience worse sound when running balanced? I just tried an Audio Sensibility balanced cable and the center image sounds thin and empty (hallow) sounding. The majority of the sound seems to be coming from extreme sides of my head. I understand that balanced is supposed to improve channel separation, but this sounds awful and very unnatural! In addition, the vocals are shifted a bit to the left of center. Any ideas what could be causing this??? I'm using a Taurus Mk II amp. Could the cable be defective?

My guess is that one of the channels has its polarity reversed.Anyone experience worse sound when running balanced?
