= HiFiMAN HE-560 Impressions & Discussion Thread =

Thanks Marcus aka tinyman392, it was great to finally meet you after all of our online contact.

On borrowing the HE-560 or HE-400i, we allowed several people to do that and I am unaware of turning anyone down. We had two sets of each model there. Only thing I can think of is we already had a HE-560 "on loan" and Summer wanted to keep one at our table.

HiFiMAN enjoyed being there and thank Steve and everyone who helped make it a success. We also appreciate everyone who stopped by to listen to our products. Response was indeed gratifying.

Regards,
Peter

It was nice to finally meet in person as well.  Can't wait to get more in-depth with the 560 and possibly 400i after.  They were both terrific cans.

 ).  Maybe your wearing them and aren't aware of it, like people asking where their eyeglasses are, and they're on their head.

That means he's been holding out with his post about his impressions.

I wish there was some real comprehensive comparison between the 400i and 560. I've read every single one posted untill now but they're not conclusive enough for me.

HE-560 = HE-4 and HE-6 -> clean, tight and airy: reference
HE-400i = HE-500 and HE-400 -> warm, lush and smooth: musical
Edit: but none of them (including the lush ones) are thick and smoky like Audeze. It's still rather light and tight, in the grant scheme of things.

That can't be done until someone has them both with them in their possession to do a proper AB in a quieter environment...  I did the best I could with my AB, but again, it's not as detailed as my AB comparisons generally are.  So for what it's worth, that's all I can really tell you from my experience.

HE-400i vs HE-560

As you could guess, the signatures of these two headphones are quite different (they are designed to be).  From what I've read, and some of what I heard, the 400i are supposed to be tailored closer to what the HE-500 originally offered.  It's warmer and more relaxed in nature than the more neutral 560.  The 400i has a bigger bass body though both have great depth and presence as a whole.  The 560's midrange isn't as energetic as the 400i's either (upper midrange).  As stated, treble is more up front with the 560.

The thing is, it's quite an enigma for me then. What I like:

Treble - extended, AIRY, good presence - 560
Midrange - energetic, forward, DYNAMIC - 400i
Bass - EXTENDED, tight, punchy - 560/400i

Imaging, soundstage depth/width, separation -???

Both are surely great! I would love something similar to K612, with improved treble, planar smoothness and more refinement, finesse... I believe the 560 is closer of the two but I am not sure enough...

Find a way to demo them, that's all I can recommend at this point :p

I am sure for you. The 560 is more akin to AKG sound (clean, airy) than the HE-500.
