If anything it would increase the leakage if they chose to have the magnets on ear side and open-ended on the rear.  However I think the HE-560's magnetic housing is on the rear instead of on ear side.

Well in theory it doesn't leak less, but to achieve the same volume you need to turn it up less, since the ear-facing sides of the drivers are much more open than dual-sided magnet drivers. So yeah leakage should be marginally reduced, indirectly.

That sounds about right

Any word on 4-pin XLR from HiFiMan for for the 560?
I know existing hifiman cables fit but I curious about the new wire they say the 560 will have..

Since they are doing away with the full wood, I wonder if the new cups will have notches for the retaining ring instead of just glued in.  I suspect a new re-grilling thread for the 560 and 400i's

Why? What's wrong with my current regrilling mod thread?

Yep, it's the HiFiMAN Regrilling Mod thread: http://www.head-fi.org/t/619447/hifiman-regrilling-mod

Any idea if HFM will go with the retaining rings with the tabs?  I assume that would mean they re-tooled the cups, so perhaps it's unlikely.  Hope they do go with the "old" style, as it makes the mod that much easier.

I think there's a good chance it's back to the old style, since the reason they abandoned it with the teak wood HE560s was due to it being wood and not appropriate for receiving small slots (could introduce additional weak points for wood cracking). Back to plastic that is no longer an issue.

I'm not sure about red grills with the wood trim.  Maybe if it's a dark wood.  I don't want to steal the wood veneer's thunder

Same wide open hex grills but painted black.  This assumes I ever get the 560s.
