If you are in Europe I'd think you should check out Forza Audio Works. Matthew is excellent to deal with and promptly answers questions and email correspondence. Their copper mk2 series cables look good and should fall in your 80€ budget.

Toxic cables is in europe too..and they offer cables (check thread here on headfi) beginning for around 90usd also...they are in UK..DO NOT CHECK THEIR SITE as thats very dated...but check their profile here on headfi: all u can wish for ur headphone..headphone cable wise

I used the Q701 pads on the HE-500s, and while I preferred them over others I'd tried up to that point, I ended up cannibalizing the foam for DIY pads.  Those are better, but it was a lot of work, and went through a few revisions.  And these new HM5 pads are more comfortable for me.  They also don't have that hollowness to which you refer.  So, if you've got the cash, you should try one, of not both, types, and save yourself a lot of work.  Unless you love doing that kind of thing.

I listened to the Sony Z7 today and decided it is not good enough to replace my HE500+SA3000 combo. So I use the budget towards a pair of Audeze Vegan pads. The Audeze pads are the thickest/steepest angle pads I could find. Although they are expensive at $80 per pairs, I hope it will be the "end game" pads for my HE500.

You're a richer braver man than I

While I'd love to try either Audeze pads, too rich for my blood.  Now if I could sell off some of my failed experiment pads, maybe I could afford a pair.  Hope they work out for you

This is a decision made for keeping the HE-500 for long.

Just completed a review of the Hifiman HE-560 Tour pair with extensive comparisons to the HE-500. You can read it here if you're interested. TL;DR version pasted below:

Have added the fuzzor mod as well. Wow, a bit amazed at the end result. Gone is the unnaturally wide sound stage that appeared from behind your hind, replaced with a more front focussed stage with a bit of added height. The sound staging is definitely more accurate, closer to what I experience through my speaker system. Headphone detail is increased and the sense of a somewhat diffuse sound mostly disappears. It really increases the sense of detail retrieval. On the negative side, where the HE-500 made compressed audio files sound tolerable, this mod does not look kindly upon that type of source material. Good quality recordings and HD material, stunning!

I need probably a new cable for my HE-500.
At the moment i have the black canare cable which don't look to good anymore.

Are there any specific recommendations?

Something in the 40 - 80€ price class?

Maybe Forza Copper HPC Mk2 for 80€. Have not tried it myself.

Hey guys would this combo by any chance sound good?

HE 500 with schiit magni/ modi combo?

Or would the HD 600 be a better pair with the Schiit Magni/Modi?

For either Id pick the Vali instead of Magni.

I'm running this exact combo. To my ears it sounds amazing but based on this thread, I may be moving in Lyr territory soon.
