HiFiman HE-500 (HE as in High End) Proving to be an enjoyable experience in listening.

This is the EQ curve I used for my HE-500 (with HE-560 pads and black pearl mode). This is just to bring the upper mid a little bit more forward. I don't find there is a treble spike with the HE-500 that I have to use EQ to even out.

The CurveEQ VST plugin is really good and I can't hear any degrade to the sound quality.

A slight 9-10 kHz peak seems to be quite normal in headphones when you look through frequency responses. Or so I think.

Wow. It looks like a new style of the HE-560 pads. If you did pay the price for stock HE-500 velour pads and received these instead then you have got a deal. Not sure how they will sound though.

I just paid for the velours. Theyre angled and look like what's called the focus pads on the head direct page

They are indeed the focus pads. Focus pad A to be exact, aka. the first version

The normal velours are $25 from headphones.com.au.

Yeah I got these for about $23. I got too many pads now. Just need the jergpads

What's the difference between the A and B?

Well they definitely aren't velour pads! Looks like the Focus A pads. I'd give them a shot if I were you. I have the standard Focus pads which sorts out the dip in the upper mids and gives it more "focussed" type sound in the imaging and sound staging. I find it a brighter overall signature and I'm hoping my new cable will balance it out somewhat.

You are right about that slightly brighter overall signature. I really like it so far, but its early days.
I've also got a Audio Gd Master 9 coming in 3 days so I can't wait to see how that does
