yep..she is the wa2 specialist..and the wa22 specialist..well i she had almost all wooamps until now..except the extreme wa5..lolz..

Pm her..ask nicely and she will respond honestly..

but my own personal experience with the wa6 i heard for about 15 minutes with my he500... I felt it lacking in power..the he500 sounded light and was missing something.. Compared with the 337 i had it was a big difference... 337 was better in driving the he500...and in same price class..
Better save some and get a stronger woo amp..or a 337 or a lyr.. But am sure dubstepgirl can explain better.

If no one responds, ask DubstepGirl...she has the HE-500 and a bunch of Woo Audio gear, with which I always end up mixing the names.

Thanks guys, I'll send her a PM

Too good to be true, they sell for £695 in the UK, even when I add import duty and VAT they come in at £540. Was tempted by the HE 400's but caught sight of this and am tempted rather than the AKG 712's. Are they as different as people say or should I just stick with the usual suspects, SENN 650'S or AKG's I can get from a UK supplier.

It depends on what is more important to you. The K712 is going to be great and should come out a good deal cheaper than he500s unless you have a real good deal on 500s. The HE400s will be priced about the same as k712 and probably do sound better across the board by a tad bit and maybe a good bit in certain areas. That being said, the k712s are damn close in sq, and are 100 times more comfortable. Its almost like they arent even there when you get used to them. The he500s are worth it over the he400s especially if you got a deal, the mods help greatly in the areas where the he400 can beat a stock he500. If you dont mind getting used to heavier and arent going to be wearing for more than 1, maybe 2 hours modded he-500s are the ticket. If you want an all arounder you can wear for days and easily take with you (not necessary in the air travel sense but in a more day to day sense) the Akg 712s are the ticket.

I own both the k702 annies and he500.

The he500 soundwise just has much more texture and weight. The vocals are also more right next to you which is nice, the soundstaging size is similar once the he500s are modded but i think i prefer k702s except for vocals, however the notes themselves are much nicer with the he500. The he-500s can make your ears a little fatigued too. When coupled with additional weight etc, this can make the he500 less enjoyable over a longer session. The super comfort, lightweight frame and less fatiguing sound of the akgs is kind of the total opposite.

Tough call huh? Thats how Ive ended up with both

I agree with the modded he50 thingie...My he500 sounded far better then any stock he500.. And i tried 2 after i modded mine.. Its like everything is supercharged..more details..more soundstage..
U will be surprised how much better the he500 becomes after the modulor pads and the grill mod and the headbandmod...all the litttle nuisances u mentioned are almost solved especialy the uncomfortable tingie..i still dont understand why hfiman didnt made a better more comfortable headband.. Yes its a heavy phone....but with the mod it feels much comfortable..imho

Hey guys, I'm thinking of getting a HE-500 to replace my HE-400. I love everything about the HE-400 apart from the recessed mids; the jerg pad mod and regrilling mod have helped heaps and made them a lot more enjoyable to listen to but I reckon I would be a lot happier with HE-500. So I'm just wondering if my WA6 will drive them well enough? It handles the HE-400 well so I'm used to hearing that well driven. Cause I love the sound of the WA6 a lot I plan on getting the SE version eventually but I'm not sure when that will be.

I was doing a lot of research about Woo amps for my HE500.  My choices came down to WA6 SE and WA22.   I ended up with a WA22 partially cuz of my DAC's balanced outputs.  It came yesterday.  So far, I am quite happy and yes, getting itchy for some tube rolling again.

Good to hear that you've decided.  WA6SE is great too.  I heard it at the CA meet.  I kept going back and forth between it and WA22.  If I don't have a balanced DAC and my HE500 cable is SE, I would end up with a WA6SE like you.  Btw, the myth about Woo's stock tubes not being very good is absolutely true.

Tbh I never found the he500 uncomfortable, but definitely heavy and noticeable. The akg on the other hand was extremely uncomfortable at first. It was one of my first phones so I think I was acclimated by then. But the larger cups (compared to ath-m50) sat on my jawline and it took perseverance to make that go away. But its gone now and i think he500 would have done the same thing if I had started with it instead. All that being said the he-500 just is never going to come close to the same comfort even at its best. The weightless feeling cannot be understated and the hifimans just cant touch it, the weight is ever present, although it doesnt bother me personally. Though anyone ive lent it to has immediately made remarks where as no one said anything except glasses wearers and even they admitted with glasses off no probs, I wear them with sunglasses a lot so i knew... Plus Koreans find the akg 701 style phones the #2 sexiest headphone. Im just saying if comfort and price are your top concerns you cant miss with k712s
