HiFiman HE-500 (HE as in High End) Proving to be an enjoyable experience in listening.

Om ny measurement rig, the ideal frequency response would be a gentle downward slope.

Another interesting thing to note is that each of those measurements was taken at the same pot position on the amp so you can see how the velour pads are less dense as they lose bass output compared to the other pads.

My personal favorites are Ether C pads for HE-6 but I would think the Dekoni DT series pads would be good on the HE-500.

Haha I thought I post that I’d found it lol but I appreciate it. And yeah the spelling probably would have helped initially.

Ok so now that I am enamored with my HE-500s with the Ether Flow angled pads does anyone know of/have any experience with amp pairings. I currently use my vintage Technics SA-828 but I definitely feel I could be getting more out of these cans. It is class A and has power for days but it's single ended and it weighs 30lbs. My first thoughts are the Schiit Jotunheim, Matrix Audio M-stage HPA-3B, or the Audio-GD NFB-1.

Class A vintage amp? You're not going to do better than that IMO unless you're looking for possible peace of mind and something transportable. Are you running off the speaker taps? I know most say direct wire off speaker taps is best.

I'm running from the headphone jack. You think something like the can opener would be an improvement? I'm not aware of the headphone jack specs but the amp is rated at 100wpc rms @8ohms and THD 0.005 20-20khz.

I ran bare wires from my Spec 2 power amp, rated 250wpc @8 Ohms. There was very little volume range but it was doable and sounded bloody fantastic! It's definitely worth trying if you have a spare balanced cable around. Or you could technically go bare wire to SMC connector on stock cable if you wanted.

Using the Hifiman adapter box and things like the can opener can degrade the sound quality. Just be careful with volume adjustments and do proper power on/shut down procedues so: Turn on Pre->Turn on Power amp->connect headphones->listen. When done, reverse order: Disconnect headphones->Power off power amp->power off preamp.

My set was modified into a dual mini 3-pin setup, but I do have a balanced 4-pin. I'll probably put a female run at the end of the original cable and cut one end off and plug it into the second set of speaker terminals. Luckily my volume control isn't very sensitive to begin with and engaging/disengaging all the buttons is one of the joys of vintage. Thanks @cskippy you just saved me $500 dollars.

Hi guys

I currently have the HE500, 400i, 400.
I wander how do those compares to the he560, he6.
It's it worth to get them both.

Thanks

IMO the HE500 is the winner. Gets you about 98% of the HE6 without crazy amping needs.

Agreed. I prefer the HE-500 over the HE-560 as well.
