400i and 560 are closer in sound signature than I would have thought.  Aside from a couple small differences and a more refined sound on the 560, you can tell that hifiman has a very clear objective when it comes to the tuning of their new headphones.  

Makes me excited about he-6 successor.

Thank you all for the recommendations on the Asgard 2.  I got a used one today and I was amazed when I hooked up my Soundmagic HP100 to the amp.  I'm sure people can argue that the Asgard is overkill for the HP100's, but I immediately noticed a difference with more impact in the bass.  I'm not used to audiophile terminology since I haven't auditioned many headphones other than HD650, Momentums, HD558 and HP100.... but I do feel the sound seems more airy and I am able to distinguish instruments much more clearly (not sure if this is soundstage or not).
 
Unfortunately, the power and gain switches were damaged during shipping so I am sending them back to the seller.  But I liked them so much I just ordered a new unit from Amazon instead
 
Can't wait to try the Asgard 2 with the HE400i when they come out!!!

Looks like hifiman is aiming for mid August release. Personally I'll need to save up a bit with school starting soon but hopefully once that is out of the way I am going to be grabbing some he-400i.

I'll be revising to comments from my original review after hearing the 400i with "grill mod" engaged today. There was a little "fuzziness" to the mids that kept them from equaling the mids on the 650. I need some time for critical listening but signature is definitely improved with the grill mod. I'll report back once I've been able to do more testing.
