Ditto that, but all the same, I prefer to let HifiMAN take its time. Hopefully many if not all changes of the HE-560 are being transferred over to the HE-400i as well as other testings until they are satisfied.

Seems as though arnaud had only a brief listen. Heck, he didn't even take any photos of the 400i! Meanwhile look at all those photos of the Fostex and the Oppo cans.
 
Surely other attendants to this Tokyo convention had some (slightly more thorough) impressions.

Just talked to HIFI-MAN customer service and it looks like these can's have been delayed to June.

Good! Better to get the product right than rush it. In the mean time, I don't have to deal with the possibility that I am going to want to sell the HE-400s for the upgrade!

Thought June was the release date anyway....
Well, the 400i should benefit from the last-minute tweaks on the 560's...bigger earpad hole etc but they still should have sent out 5 or so review pairs....they are up against PM-2 and TH-500 planars to a degree for entry/mid-level planar level cans which are coming out this year.

Well, I think that they will follow the he560 in short order. Just got word on the 560 thread that those are shipping in one to two weeks. I'd project to see the 400i shipping by mid June. 
 
Just for a guess I'll say the 19th...

Thanks for the info. But why would the release date be contingent on the Newport show?

Matt, the release date is not really contingent on the Newport Show. Rather will have newest HE-560 and latest HE-400i pre-production there.
 
Plus we will all be together and Fang should have an update for us on shipping status.
