Considering that you can currently buy a 400i on Amazon for $179, the math just doesn't make sense.
But it's your money…
:D it doesn't make sense, whats going on is the stock cable has some buzzing electrical noise (static) on the right, so I ordered an off brand cable replacement (freakn 9 ft long!) that looks really nice, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07H6SPVX5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 at an affordable price. Would like to get a census on stock vs premium cables w/ the Hifiman 400i

Main reason I want the 560s is for a more neutral, mid-centric profile for acoustic music like bluegrass and folk. I love love love the 400s for rap and classic rock, 2 of my great loves for listening. The bass slam for rap is amazing, and the lower-mid warmth is so nice for recordings from the 60s and 70s.

But for recently made acoustic recordings like the Punch Brothers, my Audio Technica ATH-M70xs can produce details that aren't there with the 400s. For a lot of music, the 70s are overly-bright and can be sibilant, but for things like John Moreland or Nick Drake, they are amazing. I know the 560s have a sound signature closer to neutral (like the 70s) and offer more detail, so for my acoustic listening, and at less than $300, they seem perfect.

Does this track with your experience?

*****

Also, been listening to all the tracks that I heard rattle and there is nothing. Ran some tests and sounded fine. Hmmm.

IMO for mids/acoustic the Senn HD-600 crush the 4** and 560. If the lack of impact bass is an issue the HE-500 best the 560 and 4**.

I used to have a Forza cable (Claire Hybrid IIRC, about $400) and it made no difference from a $60 Mogami DIY cable to me and I actually preferred the Mogami since it was lighter and more flexible.

I am using those cables and they are fine.
OTOH does it make sense to use a $1600.00 headphone amp or a $3600.00 SACD player?
I used to have a Liquid Glass amp ($4000 + $2500 in tubes) and used it with most of my headphones, HE400i included, did my HE400i sound better on the liquid glass versus other cheaper amps (Lyr2, Ember, UD301, HA501, Elise, and Asgard2), at times I'd say it did with the HE400i, HE560 and a few other headphones but with some headphones (HD800, T1gen1, and most Grado) other amps actually sounded better to me.

You may want a census (or worse, a consensus), but all I have to offer is that the $12 (for which I paid $13.90) cable which I use with my HE400i is the perfect length, has a screw-on quarter inch adapter for my amp(s), good strain relief and has the perfect jank-proof soft plastic for both the desk and mobile use. I'm not saying I'd turn down a free Periapt cable, though.

IMG_2119.PNG WeChat Image_20190215004628.jpg WeChat Image_20190215004622.jpg It seems I finished for 95% the PowerDAC V2 project! Reduced jitter to 50pS, S/N -107db(A). Now it has a simple IOS/Android app (HP-TOY) for flexible DSP control via Bluetooth LE. Volume, bass, treble, loudness(Fletcher-Munson curves), filters(7 parametric EQs, phase alignment, LPF, HPF, general text form biquad), compressor/limiter. Adjustments could be saved/imported(email,www etc)/exported(email, skype etc) as presets for further exchange-sharing. USB high-res audio interface doesn't need any driver, and can work with PC, Mac or smartphones(OTG + powered USB hub, because power consumption may be too high for some smartphone). It simply sounds like superlinear PowerDAC with zero feedback without analog amplification )) To me it is spectacular and I can change EQ on the fly to fit response Harmon curve or LCD2/HD800S etc, so far I enjoy that all day.
