Sorry to hear that, hope the return is processed quickly and you get an amp that will drive the HE-400i correctly as they are really good.

that is a no go for me :frowning2: as return and handling will cost around 95 usd , so there is no sense in doing so

I read somewhere that Capella doesn't pair well with HE-560 (90db). 400i is a little louder.  You can always try to sell it here on head-fi, it's practically new. It's not a bad amp, only a bad match for 400i.

that's what i am thinking about as well  but before that will try to pair it with few other headphones and maybe will keep it as a second amp
now I do regret that I sold my ath-m50x and ultrasone hfi-580, have a feeling would have been a nice pairing for electronic music

I see that you have an O2. Isn't that a good/great amp for he400i?

The OP says the amp works well with the 400i and fairly well with the 560. When you wrote to the seller, he did not admit that the unit may be defective??
That is a shame.
Have you tried it with different DACs ? They also mention a gain control knob, I guess that you played with that...

at this moment I only have one dac, but yulong d100 is on the way
and yes i played with gain and all other knobs there

ok, so this morning after looking for some time finally I found my Phiaton MS 400 and connected it to capella and it sounds loud indeed, so at least this confirms that it is not a defective unit but just not good for he400i, not good at all

  Any news?

will be using capella as a second amp for closed cans, waiting now for yulong d100 that i ordered for a dac functionality, but if its amp can be paired nicely with he400i then i am set and done, if not will be ordering gustard h10

I have had kind of a nasty experience with my he400i with a lovely ending. Two weeks after my purchase the cable of the 400i started to loose the left channel depending on the exact position of the cable (which had never left my office at home). I contacted the shop and they passed my issue to HIFIMAN. I got the option to get a better replacement cable from the he560, which is a bit longer (2m) and it has a big plug. When I received the cable l, everything sounded MUCH better!

I think it is mostly due to the fact that I had a faulty cable, not so much due to the new (supposedly better) one, but bass impact is now much stronger than before :)
