Thanks for the reply. The HD800 and S where a couple of headphones I also tried that didn't leave the lasting impression the HEX did.
I suppose the other option is to not listen to any other headphone ever again, buy the HEX when funds allow, close my head-fi account and be blissfully ignorant! Can't see that happeing though!

That would be a wise move if you don't want to turn the search for audio Nirvana into an expensive hobby that causes anxiety.

Hex is more neutral than the 560 not as bright much better sound stage width and depth
More comfortable over all in my I m h o

can i ask which has more bass impact the hex or 560, I tamed the the 560 birghtness using doggie treats from mr.speakers and it worked well
 
I want the best hifiman with the most bass punch out there, so if hex has less bass than hex then 560 is all good for me

when i heard 400i i found it having more bass than the 500
 
could it be that 400i has the most bass punch among hifiman

The 400i bassier than the he500s? Perhaps the 400s, without i... I've had the -i and have the 500s and these ones imho are punchier, with a much detailed bass impact that goes really deep without losing detail and above all, offer a livelier sound.

I'd like to see one day Hifiman coming out with a HE-500 V2 including the sonic signature of the originals and the headband of the HE-560 or HEX V2.

Fed properly, the HE-6 is the HFM with the most bass punch.

Not truly, no. I haven't heard everything though. ifi micro idsd is pretty decent with the he6 and it's fairly portable.

I have two desktop suggestions WA5-LE and Violectric V281, both are different but superb! I use HE X as my primary HP.
