Hi,

As Fang is going to ship out the 801 in the coming weeks, I think it would be a good preparation to start this thread early. If the JH13pro Appreciation thread could do it well before anyone had the actual experience of the true CM, this thread should be legitimate.

Here are some of the impressions that has been posted so far:

Early impression for the DAC from Jude
http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f15/hi...ne-two-424091/

words from the OP, reply post #18 from Edwood, reply post #26 for Iron_Dreamer

reply post#124 from Boomana

Impressions of the full version of the 801:
reply post#505 from Sasaki, reply post#596 from immibiker

reply post #29, from JP11801, reply post#29, from AmanGeorge

Hope this summary helps. Also, I can't guarantee that the # of replies are correct. If so, go to the threads and search for the names of the headfiers provided above.

Cheers

Hey guys,
The following is the HiFiMAN HM-801 Player Firmware Debug Thread.
http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f87/hi...9/#post6052231

I'm excited to learn that the firmware can be updated/upgraded through a PC. May be we can have a gapless playback option in the future.

Be interesting to see if the recipients of the shipping products will be allowed to post reviews of them or have had to sign non disclosure forms preventing them from doing so, but no matter how I otherwise feel about the product and company I can't deny that it did indeed sound fantastic (although I'm not sure I'm allowed to say that).

ANY ETA on a real users review from the final product?

One that isn't censored by the manufacturers anyway.

Hi, NC8000, what has happend with you on the review of HIFIMAN 801? I am strange that you said it's sound quality is fantastic and somebody to prevent you to say so. It is really decent or satire? compare to your H 140/D10 combo, how is the sound quality of HIFIMAN?

I am curious, if it is better than the iriver, I will vote for HIFIMAN. I hope I don't breaks some regulation to say so.

I think it is not only censored by the manufacturer, but also by some others. who will cost his treasure time to read the reviews with all praised words? if a review is not balanced with the advantages and disadvantages, it is a biased review.

Don't know the meaning of "ETA". The impressions of Sasaki is actually very close to the final product.

I someone did mentioned that Hifiman is better than the H140/D10 combo with the sysconcept IC--the top form of the H140/D10 combo. However, I can't give you any references.

Don't worry, the 801 is too expensive which is a disadvantage. This make this thread a balanced thread now

I don't understand, the same thing happened in the JH13pro appreciation thread but few people complained the thread is biased.

OK, I'll add another disadvantage: the production of the 801 is far behind the schedule. Now others should be pleased.

Sorry, I don't understand. Why this thread need to pass censore?

I'm just consolidating the words from other members on the impressions of the 801 because these impressions are highly scattered. This is a service that for the new comers. What's wrong with that?

All this censor talk is in response to my attemt at reviewing the review unit that Fang had sent to me for the Danish meet. As soon as I posted my review I got an email saying that this review sample was not in a state to be reviewed so I removed the review and later the thread was deleted. It could be listened to at the meet but nobody was allowed to publicly express opinions about it. So I immediately returned the unit as I did not see any point in bringing a unit to a meet that obviously did not meet high enough quality criteria that anybody was allowed to talk about it. Funny thing is that the main reason it was sent to me in the first place was to try to have 2 Danish hifi magazine do reviews of the unit, the meet was only secondary criteria as very few units still exist

I do not understand or agree with Fang's way of handling this and will now not on principle buy a unit despite it did sounding very good for the all of 2 hours I managed to listen to it

As nc8000 requested (he emailed me about 40-50 headfiers and maybe some magzine editors will attend Danmark meet), we shipped a test sample to him. nc8000 told me that he will bring the unit to the meet, show it to headfiers and recommend it to editors, and maybe do a comparation to some other players. Because we do not have enough final product in the first batch, we shipped a test sample with some small problems, but it can play music and it should be OK to listen to its sound quality. I told him that we do have a new version firmware which might solve these problems, but I wish him to bring it to the meet before doing software upgrading (in case upgrading firmware might take some risk, esp. the 801 unit shipped to nc8000 is a demo version, and our special upgrading tool, which is a software tool installing to PC to help customers upgrade firmware by themselves, need another two or three weeks to finish).

I thought nc8000 might post some impression at our MOT thread or Jude's review thread. However, I was atonished that he was doing a full review. I don't think doing a full review for a test demo is a proper or unbiased way to evaluate a product. So I emailed him and ask him why he was doing a review, and at the same time I tried to reach him by phone for several times. nc8000 did not reply my email until he deleted his thread. Then he emailed me back and delcared that he will return the unit in the next day.

I understand nc8000 was very upset when he deleted his review and decide to return the unit to us. I apologize that we did not have time to do enough good communication to him so that Hifiman will not attend Danmark meet. In addition, I appreciate nc8000's impression post about our product.
