HiFiMAN 602: Talk about your initial impressions and specs

I'll pull the trigger on this as long as it will sound substantially better than my Cowon and Grado HF2's (ampless).  With the quality of amp inside the 602, would I benefit from an amp for my HF2's?  If so, how much would I need to spend to get a worthwhile improvement?.  Assuming this device will give me high-end sound without the addition of an amp, this is what I was looking for.

As far as I understand it, the amp used in the 602 is very similar to the standard amp in the 801, just with an added gain switch. I'm not sure how much the OPA2107 used in the 602 differs from the OPA627 in the 801, but it should have little trouble outperforming a Cowon, considering the 801 smashed my Cowon to tiny bits. From what I've seen around the web, the 2107 has a very good reputation for sound quality.

One post I found: "I've found the opa2107 to be an excellent replacement for both the opa2604/3132/3134. It is my favorite 'Burr Brown sound' opamp, save for the OPA627 which is far more expensive, available only as a single, and because of its speed, far more likely to be problematic. Its sound is far less 'hi-fi' than their other duals, extended with lovely bass and a slightly warm and dense midrange. If you're a fan of the hyper extended (ear bleed) sound, its probably not your cuppa."

I asked Fang a bunch of questions regarding the 602 and his answers are above in bold. It certainly helped me.

As for the NOS DAC I did some research and I finally understand what "NOS" stands for and what they mean in terms of sound.
I'll have to research more and find out what type of DAC my other players use to see if it'll bother me. At the moment I'm wary about the synergy with my incomming SM3s and the 602 but I'll see.

30$ is actually pretty good shipping price considering I pay 30€ for shipping from countries that are adjacent to mine.

He said he's going to upgrade the amp module that originally comes with 801. (For 801 mainland user)

Hifiman 602 does not have any amp module slot but he said the build in amp circuit inside 602 is very close to 801.

That's the reason why he's going to upgrade better amp module for 801 user.

By the way, he may offer USA user free upgrade also:

^ I read all that and got kinda confused. Are they offering a upgrade of the 801 amp module for mainland users or an upgrade of the 602 amp module?

Hmm there seems to be a lot of interesting (to me) talk abou the 602 on that forum but I'm not getting errors when I try and use a translator.
Got any suggestions to get around this?

Ordered.

I find it pretty hard to believe that Fang is including $200+ earphones for free with preorders on a $370 device.  If I'm wrong, though, be sure to send a pair of RE262's my way!
