Although there is no doubt that this app still has a long ways to improve and I mean A LOT ! in fairness... the "????????" is not the fault of the app. Some of your music is lacking the proper ID's.

When I first got my Hiby R3, I had a lot of the "????????" too. I cleaned up the file names and then everything looked good.
This software is totally free and will help.

No. This only happens with Hiby Music. Every other application I use, desktop or mobile, understands every character encoding I've thrown at it. If the the tags are ok for the music stores who sell the music and for every other app I use, then it should also be ok for Hiby Music.

I used to love this app, since it was one of the rare free ones that can play DSDs on an iPhone. However, somewhere down the line, it stopped working with DLNA on my Synology NAS. I have tested it with two DLNA servers, the Synology native and minimserver. HiByMusic can see the DLNA library structure, but fails to play any music. With the Synology native server, the app crashes while trying to access the playlist in an album. With minimserver, it just shows an empty playlist with no tracks. Both the iPhone and iPad behave the same way, whereas DLNA works perfectly with other music players such as mconnect.

Note, DLNA used to work with HiByMusic before, but stopped working after one of the updates many months back, and has been like this ever since. It’s definitely a dealbreaker for me.

What character encoding would that be?

Honestly I don't know of a way to check what character encoding is being used on metadata. However, I haven't had issues with players that use UTF8 as default.

EDIT:
Ok Playing around with mp3tag, here's an example of an album where metadata just appears as a bunch of ????? characters in HiBy Music.

Maybe it's not about character encoding but support for FLAC ID3v2 ?

It looks like the tags were encoded in UTF-8, which should be readable. The next question is, were you viewing the titles in one of the library views (Title, Album, Genre) or the Files view?

Just flashed the phone with new ROM, and noticed the app has disappeared from Play Store?!

There's only 1 app made by Hiby now, called "Hiby Blue". What happened to the original music app?

Hiby Music's Android version App download points are as follows:

Hmm, wouldn't trust any of the Chinese apk download sites (Even the "major" ones). With Google Play Store at least there's some sort of vetting process
