HiBy RS6 Android DAP - Snapdragon 660, 4+64GB, 5” full HD, Darwin R2R, FIR, NOS, MQA 16x, copper chassis

Quick question. Why are personal 16-bit/44.1 kHz tracks being over sampled to 48 kHz when I have nos toggled on? I thought nos was designed to be a ‘bit perfect’ option? I’m typically utilizing the HiBy player. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.
Update your firmware to the latest (you may need to check update more than once). This was a bug with an older firmware version.

Another question. Anyone have issues when pairing with an external amp (PA10 in particular)? 4.4 BAL LO is nearly impossible to utilize with more sensitive IEMs and I’d prefer to not utilize 4.4 BAL PO and have my music run through multiple amps. The use of an external amp is all new to me so if I’m not thinking this through correctly, please advise. Thanks.
We offer the option to volume adjust the line out, on DACs where a volume control exist (other manufacturers may choose to disable this even where available, owing to the reputation that a "true line out" is supposed to be volume-un-controllable). Unfortunately the RS6 is not such a model.

Thank you for the quick response! Firmware is 1.70_20230309-1991. States current after 10 attempts.

Copy that. I might try the 3.5 LO help my case?

Is the volume adjust of the line out done in the digital section of the DAC on the RS6 or is it an analog volume adjust (pre-amp)? Same on RS8?

Unless I misunderstood, it’s not available on RS6.

For the headphone out, it's a separate analog volume control built into the amplification stage. Hence why it's not available for the line out.

Niche use case I am aware, but does anyone have success with the Calm app? When playing something back it will play for a second or two, then it will pause. I can’t seem to replicate this on my other players like my iBasso DX300, so I was thinking it may be something unique about Hiby’s SRC bypass the app disagrees with. I have attempted a few reinstalls etc.

The app for reference: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.calm.android&hl=en_US&gl=US

@Joe Bloggs would you recommend I reset the device? Verified firmware is up to date. Issue still exists only in HiBy music. UAPP seems to acknowledge NOS.

Then it sounds like you might have one of the EFOtech plugin loaded (if not active). Go to the plugins page for HiByMusic, swipe sideways on any of the EFOtech plugins to remove them.

….. that did it. I enthusiastically added all the plugins thinking I’d just have them available for toggling on and off. Thank you sir.

That should have been the case. The guys at EFOtech (including yours truly here) thought at the time it was a good idea to keep a volume pad active when the plugin was inserted but off, to neutralize volume changes between when the plugin is on and off. 🙄🤣

It is also possible to do software controlled volume control using dithering - this will have minimal to no impact on sound quality, much like Roon's software volume control (and many other devices such as MiniDSP shd, Genelec speakers with GLM etc). RS6 has enough processing power to easily implement a dithered digital volume control when using LO (even as a plugin).

* There's also an Android app player that has this volume control, i forget the name of it now... unfortunately it doesn't integrate with any streaming services.

dithering is certainly the way to go when doing this, to avoid signal-correlated distortion. That's not to say that you will recoup any of the loss of SNR. Obviously not--you're decreasing the signal while the noise remains constant, or even increased for the sake of dithering. The point of analog volume control, if there is one, is that it attenuates both the signal and the noise.
