dithering is certainly the way to go when doing this, to avoid signal-correlated distortion. That's not to say that you will recoup any of the loss of SNR. Obviously not--you're decreasing the signal while the noise remains constant, or even increased for the sake of dithering. The point of analog volume control, if there is one, is that it attenuates both the signal and the noise.
Indeed. I tried using RS6 line out with Roon's dithered volume control directly in my speakers, it was excellent. Is it a complex piece of work to make volume control plugin for line out (linked with the volume knob) you think?

Unfortunately you'd first have to ask Cayin how their grounding is arranged on this amp.
The underlying technical issue is, that the 4.4mm output is balanced (L- L+ R- R+) while the RCA input may or may not be compatible with that. While there are the same number of pins (ignoring for the moment the extra ground pin on the 4.4mm end), on the RCA end it's ostensibly GND L GND R. If GND and GND are actually the same ground, you have essentially the same situation as infamously converting a 4.4mm output to 3.5mm SE headphones--the two balanced channels push-pulling against each other on the common ground on any stereo content, leading to messed up sound at best and possibly a burnt out output over time at worst.
Not so if the two grounds are well separated, or better yet if they share circuitry with some balanced e.g. XLR inputs on the same board and function similarly.

Balanced to rca inputs on amp (with correct wiring - sum up the cold and screen at the RCA end ) typically worked with most balanced sources I've used.. This is not to say it'll work with RS6.
Some manufacturers like Lavry DA11 even provide xlr to rca plugs in the box with their dac. There's also an ifi adapter 4.4mm to 3.5mm with specific wiring for non balanced headphones (not sure how safe it actually is but ifi is a good company) - https://ifi-audio.com/products/headphone-adapter-3-5mm-to-4-4mm/
Try and get more info from Hiby on correct wiring to do this, be careful

Yeah I also think it should be possible but would rather know now that later after I’ve fried something . Incase it’s not possible I’ll just use a 3.5 to rca cable.
HiBy music app is getting annoying - keeps logging out Qobuz. When I log back in I see a message logged in but the login page still stays qobuz doesn’t open. I keep retrying no luck. Not sure how I got it working last time, maybe reinstall but I don’t want to keep doing that

I am having a different issue with my RS6. The volume wheel moves up and it shows volume going up but with no sound output. It worked fine a few months ago last time I used it but since I have many daps I often put one aside for a while. Now there's no output from either 4.4 or 3.5 Po or Lo both don’t work. Can anyone help me out? @Joe Bloggs@HiByMusic any help would be appreciated. Cheers

If it's fresh out of a factory reset and there's no sound, it should be a hardware problem. Please contact hello@hiby.com or your local dealer if you bought it locally regarding this. Sorry about that.

edit: although, there is a possibility that something is wrong in software, if one of the other ports (say 4.4 for audionewbi) still works, and it's possible that the OS / NOS toggle in audio settings might make a difference.
