Just received the R8 in suitcase with dignis case got to say I love it! My only bug bear is it's not so great finding missing art work in the Hiby app both fiio and shanling perform better finding album artwork.

I would agree. Hiby Music tends to grab random pics

Welcome to the club.
R8 is open android, you can try to install and use Fiio app.
I do use UAPP, Qobuz, BubbleUPnP and Neutron.

Hey fellow users - what firmware version is current for the R8?

I have noticed a few glitches lately (frozen screen on start-up) and checked my firmware, it is 1.5. There is a 1.6 firmware update available and I can download it, but when I attempt to install it, the upgrade fails at about 43% of the installation. I tried it a few times with the same result. It’s supposed to happen automatically but if that 1.6 update failed to install I could be a few behind. @Joe Bloggs, @gLer any advice to force the system to update (it seems the download went fine)? Or does this mean there could be some problem with the new firmware itself? Anybody else having a problem with it?

I just bought a used r8.
It loses 2% battery per day (player off), like many other users...
What I would like to know is whether all new r8s also lost battery?
And I noticed that wifi tends to consume a lot of battery. How often with your R8?

Most new R8s lost battery daily and some R8s will have swollen battery eventually. I’ve sent my R8 to China for repair recently due to swollen battery.

Try removing any micro SD card inserted then download the update again if necessary and try updating again.
