I haven’t used my R8 for 120 days (since I got the SP3K). In that time the battery has dropped from 80% back in October and is at 31% now.
That's not bad at all. Mine can drop from 80% to 31% within 2 weeks even without using it.

Do folks find the r8 is slow in terms of its UI relative to new DAPs? I recently had a cayin n8 which I thought was almost unusable today (whereas the n8ii which I picked up subsequently was a night and day difference)
The R8 has a fast UI.

I would say the R8 has a fast UI.

When did the new firmware get released?
Two minutes before my post :)
I am pretty convinced the popup notification came during listening.
It is also possible that it was already there when I started, I had just oversaw it, but definitely not there on the previous night when I put the R8 on charger.

Has anyone managed to get HibyCast working with the new firmware? @HiByMusic
What does it "do" and how can we access it?
Yes, it works, however a bit too unstable for me at the moment.
It is a sort of android screen replicator.

You have to download the remote controller app described here:
https://www.head-fi.org/threads/hib...s-and-impressions-thread.964900/post-17348742

You start the HibyCast (host, coming with the firmware upgrade) on the R8, it shows a QR code. You start the HibyCast (controller, downloaded as above) on the android device. It starts camera scanning. You scan the QR code on R8, connection establishes. You can see the R8 screen replicated on android device. You can touch the android, it is replicated on R8.

Recently I am using the following setup for remote control with (not 100%) satisfactory stability:
I start UAPP on R8 and 'Start UPnP renderer' within UAPP. R8 goes into pocket, headphone to the head. Start mconnectLite on iPhone7. Select 'Play to' tab, choose 'HiBy R8 UAPP Renderer'. Select 'Browser' tab, Qobuz (or local files on iPhone), select a playlist...
The mconnect player remains outside the pocket, can jump to next song as I wish.

Same method when R8 is used as streamer with USB out or coax to my desktop DAC.
