Thanks for replying Joe. I was at the end of my wits, trying to get Google Play to work. Now it's all clear.

No, I sent you an R6 that I'd purchased in the USA, an international edition. Unfortunately, I received back a Chinese edition.

Please advise how to rectify the situation.

Dear PunchLine,

Sorry about the mixup.

Please provide identifying details of your repair such as your contact email address via pm to get started.

Upon further examination, it sounds like your device is the R6 not the R6 pro, and that the source of your troubles would be that you carried out the oreo update using the wrong firmware image.

If you follow the instructions here and downloaded the firmware image (and other tools) from here, you should re-update to the international version no problem. (NOTE: these are for the original R6, not the R6 pro, nor the R6 2020.)

To all users experiencing unusual battery drain on standby:
Our initial diagnosis:
Please go to Play Store and check for updates to Google Play Store and Google Play Services.

This is especially important for those of you who turned off auto-update to stay on TIDAL 2.11.3

Thanks! Will do my best.

BTW, I didn't perform any upgrade, Oreo or Twinkies...If it ain't broke don't fix it.

 something between your account and our company's account doesn't match. Anyway, hope the reflash works out for you! Sorry for the troubles.

I was literately about to say about this again.
As it was the reason I went back to the shop whilst I was staying in Taiwan, only to find it not happen whilst I was there.
Found this morning that Google play services used 5% battery having apparently been used for 18 minutes.
I find keeping wifi off, unless im using it, helps, but yea I still have to manually goto wifi for it to connect to my 5ghz network but thats an age old bug of Android.

The initial diagnosis regarding the battery drain issue seems to be off the mark...

We will need to try to replicate the issue and pin down the error.

Would everyone with the battery drain issue please report the user-installed apps you have on the device.

Those who are more technically savvy can follow @Meanstreak242 's footsteps and try to provide system logs.

1. Install Matlog on the R6 from google play.
2. Follow this guide to set up ADB on your computer and the R6: https://www.xda-developers.com/install-adb-windows-macos-linux/
3. On the computer, run the following shell command to allow Matlog to read logs from the R6:
adb shell pm grant com.pluscubed.matlog android.permission.READ_LOGS

Also, you can try granting more (all) permissions to Google play services and Google Play store. The firmware by default grants few permissions to Google, and this can cause crashes.
For example, I was receiving an error loop similar to that shown by @Meanstreak242 on my R6 pro's matlog and was able to stop it by granting Location access to Google Play services.

The permissions can be granted by going to System Settings (the Settings app in the main drawer, not in HiByMusic)->tap Apps & notifications->tap See all xx apps (if required)->(Scroll down)->tap Google Play Services->tap Permissions->turn on the toggles (Location and Telephone seem to be the two main ones that might give trouble not turned on but you may just turn them all on if you want)

You can do the same for Google Play Store which is also in the Apps & notifications list.

Hi John, I did the Facebook fix, turning on the permissions on google play services did the trick, I can guarantee I’m right now using my device properly. I don’t know which permission did it, I just turned on all of em, the overheating issue is gone as well, im betting something was stuck and doing a loop in the service, nevertheless I’m glad to have my unit working properly again. Big thanks to you guys

@Joe Bloggs

Very frustrating. Qobuz download (or streaming) won't play unless casting to a google cast device.

If I toggle back to regular playback pay is stuck on but no track progress. Just sits there in play on zero time. I can skip forwards to the next track but always the same - stuck at the start of the tacks not playing.

Update After 20 mins of switching everything on and of.5 times its starts to work.

What about using wired earphones?

Can i connect an iphone via camera connection kit to the Hiby R6 pro and use the iphone sort of as a streamer and the Hiby as a usb dac?

Not interested in wireless connections.
Why not connect to your iPhone something like an xDSD or another of many DAC/amp combos? Probably a better form factor... Don't know what the sound difference would be...
