Class A will do that. Switch to Class AB and test it that way.
Well that helped! Thanks for the feedback. AB is much better on heat and battery drain. There's almost no warmth, and an hour of play only took the battery down about 10%. With the minimal testing I've done so far I can't really tell A from AB soundwise, but will continue to review some 'test' tracks.
So now I can assume this is not a defective unit, but just poor engineering. (or maybe they shouldn't have built a Class A mode at all) I would expect that if this is normal, Hiby would document somewhere that it is normal to heat up and really drain the battery, but... China.
I do wonder 'what' is heating up internally. When lithium ion batteries 'fast drain' they heat up, and eventually kill the battery, OR ignite.
I have some more research to do and a decision to make (within 28 days).

In Class A, the amplifier is literally using full output power every moment and dissipating any of it that's not output as sound as heat... this is done to avoid any crossover distortion. However, Class AB (while using a fraction of the power) also has very good rejection of crossover distortion already...

Hi all,

I am pleased to announce the addition of a new feature!

It's called Dynamics under HiByMusic app for R Android. (currently, inside the app, not system plugins).

Screenshot_20230607-213354.pngScreenshot_20230607-212714.png

It enhances dynamics (punch, snap, PRAT etc.) of bass / mids / treble when sliders pushed to the right. Recommend: suitable boost of bass and treble dynamics, experiment with small boosts to mids only. Can combine with EQ bass / treble cuts to e.g. remove muddy bass while enhancing punch. Can combine treble dynamics cut with EQ treble boost to remove e.g. sibilance while retaining overall brightness.

Note, 0x is the neutral setting, +x are increases and -x are decreases of each band's dynamics.

Give it a try and let me know what you think!

Cheers,
Joe

Update: the hangup mentioned below was after an update of the HiByMusic app version, before trying the plugin (so should not be related to this plugin)

I just updated the app, played a few tracks and whole device has frozen, nothing responds screen or buttons. I've also removed card and still frozen. Is there any way to reset?

That's excellent information. That should be on the R6 III product page. So I'll just stay away from Class A except for showing off.

That's very strange. Try holding the power button until the device restarts?

Good enhancements- also saw the addition of the Parametric EQ, but… why using strange format “peq” files when it would be much easier and user friendly to import headphones profiles from open source standard txt files like AutoEQ (GitHub project) provides?
Many other apps make use of it, like Peace on Windows or Neutron on Android/iOS.

And for my AKG K701 my preferred profile:
Preamp: -5.8 dB
Filter 1: ON LSC Fc 105 Hz Gain 5.9 dB Q 0.70
Filter 2: ON PK Fc 215 Hz Gain -2.5 dB Q 0.56
Filter 3: ON PK Fc 4897 Hz Gain 5.4 dB Q 0.20
Filter 4: ON PK Fc 2273 Hz Gain -7.0 dB Q 1.92
Filter 5: ON PK Fc 5877 Hz Gain -9.1 dB Q 1.69
Filter 6: ON HSC Fc 10000 Hz Gain -3.5 dB Q 0.70
Filter 7: ON PK Fc 73 Hz Gain -1.1 dB Q 2.32
Filter 8: ON PK Fc 106 Hz Gain 1.6 dB Q 5.27
Filter 9: ON PK Fc 745 Hz Gain 0.7 dB Q 2.37
Filter 10: ON PK Fc 1019 Hz Gain -0.8 dB Q 3.17

Good thing now is that you can (if you prefer...) use PEQ even with Tidal(except for MQA) or Qobuz (within Hiby music)
