Ditto. Mine arrived from Amazon today with a 44% charge. Updated the firmware, then I put in a SD card with NIN FLAC files and set to Class A, Mid Gain and played on my Noire. Very warm after 5 minutes and after 20 min, can't even hang onto it more that a few seconds. Oh, and that charge 44% charge was down to 5% in 25 min.
I then charged to 90%, let it play again and still got really hot. After 80 min battery was at 5%.
This can't be normal. I'll play with it a for few more days to make sure it doesn't improve and then return to Amazon. Haven't decided if I'll try a same replacement or just refund and buy something else. Seems like most folks are pretty happy with it.
It DOES sound great! But if I put this in my pocket it'll set my pants on fire and not in a fun way.
Thanks for the sharing. Right now i just always use Class AB, Low gain, Volume 60, MSEB turn on. So far the temperatue is ok. I think the culprit is the Class A. To be honest, may be i don't have golden ears, i can't hear any different between Class AB or Class A

The heating issue does seem to render Class A unusable if the device gets so hot after such a short amount of time that the user can't even hold it.

@Joe Bloggs is this something that could potentially be resolved by a FW update?

Well noted.

Any chance that the saved .peq files are already a standard format. The new autoeq site supports quite a few different ones.

From my experience- yesterday again I used Class A for a few hours - indeed you notice that gets hotter (and battery drains faster) - but in my case not to the point to be unable to hold it: might be related with case? I use the leather case which has quite a big vent opening on the back. I normally use Class A when I need a bit more power to drive my 250ohm Beyerdynamic 990.

Mine gets warm, but not hot to the touch. I don’t use a case, and mainly run iems on low gain, class A.

I don’t think so: I’ve cracked the peq format except that it adds some random (?) decimal positions to each value of gain and Q - I tried to take those out leaving only the significant numbers, but gives format import error- so that’s Hiby signature somehow on the peq format.

I wasn't using a case. This may be why more folks haven't had an issue with it. I'm wondering more about the battery when using Class A. Most reviewers state they're getting at least 6 hrs, and more if they use the 3.5 jack. Using the 4.4 balanced (medium gain), around 90 min is my max. I'll do one more test from a full charge and see if I get any better results.

Have you tried editing in such as way as not to change anything (e.g. delete a number then put it back in) then saving, and checked if that still loads? It may be a problem with the file format saved by your editor?

Unfortunately I've been informed by headquarters that this would be a hardware defect.

I've pm'd HiFilife regarding how he may proceed.

I just tested again. Class A + Mid Gain. Man.. every minute, battery drop 1%... :scream: and it is really warm to the touch. So unless it can't drive the can, then only turn on.

No worries Joe… I was just testing
when I was testing it, I was able to edit the PEQ file in a text editor, and I did not have to preserve the same number of digits.
