Hiby FC6 - another R-2R USB dongle

R-2R much?

THIS!

Been thinking of miniaturizing my setup, using R2R dongle as my desktop DAC. Already have the RU6 but didn't pair well with my amp so using it attached to Android portable (as designed).

Started looking at the HM800 since it's the smallest and doesn't have volume controls (even searched for MMCX to 3.5mm / RCA adapters for connecting to external amp). I know none of these has a true line-out (nor do I expect any of them to compete with my Metrum DAC) but I'd love to know which dongle might pair best with an amp.

Now researching the Hiby these past weeks so really looking forward to your comparo.

Regarding the glitch ClieOS mentioned, we do believe it is an issue caused by nonconformance of the Snapdragon 8 series chipset to the full USB standard. (a bit like David pointing the finger at Goliath, I know, but there you go). We have already been trying to work around the issue, unsuccessfully it seems (or, we might have been trying to fix it too hard for exclusive mode (which is fine as ClieOS reported) and forgot about regular). Stay tuned.

As enthusiastic as Andy’s review was, I am skeptical that this dongle with its rated power was really able to drive a high powered planar with any kind of authority. Not that this is a knock on the unit, it shouldn’t be tasked with driving difficult headphones given its rated power output.

Really, let it go lol. I'm just saying it's possible to get use and adapter if you don't have regular 3.5 cables. It doesn't have 4.4, and no amount of whining is going to change that. Maybe it was because of space constraints, maybe they just wanted to concentrate on 3.5 out. Idk, but there's a simple solution- don't buy it! As far as an adapter I have multiple iems and cables so I just keep it connected if I'm using a 3.5 source with that iem for a while.

And there are times when the balanced out is better than the 3.5 jack on a dap, in case that's been my experience. That's why I have many balanced cables. But there are times obviously when something has a really good old fashioned 3.5 out. Then I've got my adapters if I don't want to use a normal cable. Honestly it's not any more trouble than disconnecting and connecting your USB to its source. It literally takes a second or two.

Anyways buy a cayin then, this is the second time you mentioned this. Or if you have one and are happy with it- why are you here? I mean I just don't get the point of it? You think it's overpriced? OK, you don't want to carry or remember an adapter lol, OK. Sounds like this isn't the dongle for you. Do I wish it was priced lower? Sure I do, but it's not, so I either suck it up and buy it or I don't. See easy 😀 And yes different people have different wants and needs, that's why there's different products.
There are tons of products out there that don't 'fit my needs' but I don't go on their info or web page and complain about what they lack or even about the price- why?

Because it's pointless and a waste of my time, and I know the world doesn't revolve around me. And they're are countless other items that fit my needs. Just like there's countless dongles with 4.4 outs that are less than 300 dollars.

I will say the ibasso dc03 pro is one of the best dongles I've heard and it's 3.5 only. 4.4 would be nice, but it's tiny and sounds so good. Anyways enough of this silliness, seek help.
Hi Ibasso just released ibasso dc04 pro which should be the same as ibasso dc03 pro, just now with both 3.5 and 4.4 just FYI. But the price is almost double.

Ibasso dc03 pro is a nice little dongle. The 04 should be awesome. Nice thing about 03 is it sips power, and still sounds great. Of course no 4.4, which the 4 solves.

Of course it's not r2r so it sounds similar to everything else but the latest models have been really quiet, and the 03 at least has a little pleasant coloration. I think I should have FC 6 soon.

Is hard to believe DAC/AMP these days doesn't come with 4.4mm output esp. in that asking price.
It doesn't even have to be balanced. More for user convenience.
Cayin RU6, Questyle M15, Fiio BTR7 all have it for a reason.
The reason is that balanced has been unnecessarily hyped over the years. It is not actually necessary, nor necessarily beneficial, especially in the case of these dongles when it requires an extra opamp stage to create. The R6 also drains power much faster than other dongles.

Output impedance is calculated to be around 0.6 ohm.
Thanks, that's not too terrible then.
It would be better if it were 2 Ohms, to reduce the chance of hearing hiss with sensitive IEMs. The idea that it has to be almost zero is rather ridiculous IMO. If you have anything, especially IEMs that are affected by the difference between 0.6 Ohms and 2 Ohms... then I'd argue that the problem is not with the amplification.

Depends on the design of the circuit, not the power output. A good example: The FiiO M11S and M11 Plus have near the same power specs, but their ability at driving IEMs and headphones is very audibly different.

I read a Japanese review and it seemed like it had a narrow sound stage and sounded congested. I know r2r isn't known for technicalities but ru6 had nice staging.

FC6 just came in today, wow was that fast! Going to give it a thorough listen before I share any impressions, first experience with R2R so can't compare to anything else but my other USB dongles, but crossing my fingers for bug free iPhone listening, DC03pro is about as stable as the standard Apple dongle and that's part of the reason why I love it so much. Even if it doesn't work with a USBC/lightning cable, I got other USB-C sources to try it from.

Oh good, I've got the dco3 pro too. Comparisons would be appreciated 😀 I hope it's good because I just found out hiby official site has no returns ( I assumed they did :( ) . So if it doesn't work out I'll have to sell it and take a loss.

Can at least report back the FC6 works great with iPhone SE 2020 and iOS14, LCD display and filter selection is simply amazing! Screen shuts off after a few secs like I hoped for, NOS/OS mode in a pinch, easy switch between filters. Smooth playback so far, letting music play in background while using other apps doesn't glitch it out like cheaper dongles with poor software. Shuts off volume control on iphone and allows total independence of the FC6 volume, very well done! Functional wise, this is 5/5. Now, time to play a ton of music!
