HiBy Digital M300 Android Digital Audio Player,"The Gen-Z Music Player" - Discussion thread

M300: I've been using Tidal in offline mode and it takes an unbelievable and unacceptable 11 minutes for the first song to play. I've posted about it in this thread along with the other challenges I've had.

I just loaded the same amount of songs into my iPhone 16 Pro Max for offline playing. It took....* 3 seconds * to play the first song for the first time.
THREE SECONDS. Regarding codecs, a 10% improvement is just not worth it.

FIIO BT11 🙏 Please come into my life.
That is strange. I use Tidal offline and tracks play instantly.

Would really love to compare notes with those who do use tidal offline successfully and those who don't and see what's the difference in usage.

I have had the same experience with Tidal offline with both the M300 and the R4. I have to set any SD card I use as Internal or it takes hours just to download say 1000 songs when set as external. As an Internal the download is in minutes but it does take about 10 minutes for the music to begin. I wonder if it is cataloging the entire downloaded songs each time off the SD card.

So download is slow while playback is fast with card set to external and vice versa when card is set to internal?

The download time is slow when SD is set as External and no delay in beginning to play, the playback delay happens then the SD is set as Internal, but the downloads are fast now. Also, if you download to the units built in storage (limited space) you do not have the long delay before the files will play. I have tried at least 6 different cards and the same issue on each.

To be transparent, I have tried trouble shooting this issue with Tidal and got the run around, they insist it is a hardware issue. Though I did not have the slow download or long delay play times with either Spotify, Apple, Deezer or even YouTube Music when saving to a Sd card. They all have their own unique issues but not the two we are discussing here. It seems I have only seen these two issues when using Tidal with Hiby units.

As a side note, On the R4 if you have the SD card set up as Internal and then clear the downloaded files from Tidal and try to uninstall it will not, if will flag Tidal as a System App and not let you uninstall. You have to wipe the entire unit and start from fresh. Not an issue with the other steaming app and I no longer have a M300 to confirm this on that.

I've downloaded Tidal content to the M300's internal memory. Perhaps that's why I'm not having the same issues. I can try and download to the SD card and see if it replicates the problem.

"The download time is slow when SD is set as External and no delay in beginning to play, the playback delay happens then the SD is set as Internal, but the downloads are fast now."

If I factory reset then: set the SD external > it will take a long time to download > when turning on & not connected to the internet there should be no delay when starting to play and no delay between songs?

FYI, @2600 song titles are downloaded. Download time....24 hours at a guess on the M300 with lots of interruptions and restarts. Download time iPhone = about 2 1/2 hours.
All circumstances same....meaning downloading took place not far from a high-speed router/relay in a nest system at home.

Contacted Tidal and had the same outcome SODDI...

Would anyone be able to generate a LogCat of those 11 minutes of waiting for Tidal offline to start playing?

I don't know how but I can follow directions if you post them.

I've discussed this with you and posted here about this. No responses from other users before but now I am relieved to know it's just not me. It appears to be an issue with HiBY players. If it is fixable, directions on how to would be a smart idea.

https://github.com/darshanparajuli/LogcatReader

You would download a logcat reader like this one or similar.

They need to be granted permission by connecting to a computer with the Android SDK Platform Tools installed and typing in the e.g. command line shown in the link for the github app.

The Platform Tools can be downloaded here: https://developer.android.com/tools/releases/platform-tools

Once you have access to logs, you can open the logcat reader app before starting TIDAL to do its thing and look for entries in red with the E status ("error").

You should be able to save the logs to file in the app and send it to us here.

Is this with the SD set as internal or external? And is this with the same lag when actually using the files offline?

Are there any list of external DACs that were confirmed as being able to work with m300 using only 1 usb-c cable?

Does anyone know why this cable doesn't work on the M300?

I used it with my Hiby R2 and my Hiby R3 pro Saber connected to my Mojo 2 and they worked correctly.

But now, when I try to use it with the M300, the Mojo 2 doesn't receive a digital signal on its coaxial port.

Isn't the M300 capable of transmitting a digital signal with this adapter?

I see that on some websites, this cable is being sold as compatible with the R4.

It works on the R4, but not on the M300?

@Joe Bloggs
Can you help?
Is there any configuration to do on the M300?

The M300 does not output a coaxial signal through its USB-C port.

Unfortunately, I figured it might not work. The M300 size for the Mojo 2 would be ideal.
But thanks for the reply!

Couldn't you just use USB to USB to run the Mojo 2?
Yes!! We can use the USB input of the Mojo 2. I just wanted to be able to use this cable that I already have at home and now it will be unused, for now, since I sold the R2 and R3 after I bought the M300 to use as a transport for my dongles and Mojo 2, and also to use with my TWS when on the move.
