Thanks as I find it very useful. Erm after playing with hd800s a lot yesterday. I am wrong. These are incredible for metal. I altered the way they sit on my head and gave them more amp juice. Huge soundstage. Now I need something closed back for work with a similar sound. Def not selling hd800s now

They sound very, very good on black metal, but possibly I'm poisoned by orthodynamic sound, so - not champions in TOTL league.
But they really excellent for progressive and sympho-metal.
Well, you do already have one of the mountain peaks when it comes to headphones! Who knows, maybe clear will bring competition to HD800S, but at a lower price! We can always hope
Well, having in the mind track of Sennheiser early 800 -> late 800 -> 800 S, it seems really curious to check Focal's next turn in very close price range.
Curious really. At work I use the venerable sennheiser hd25-II's for listening to progressive rock and metal (more the former than the latter admittedly). Was just wondering if there were any alternatives that had the senns isolation and sound but in a more comfortable package? Tend to wear them for most of the day when I do (it's either headphones or iems, and the headphones go on when I am irritated with not getting a good seal from the iems!) and the clamp (which I get is needed for the isolation) does get annoying after awhile. Head tends to feel it's been in a vice.
No real budget as such, would be driven from a sony a35.
