Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution

It didn't make a discernible difference to me on the soundstage. I'm not the best judge on soundstage though.

Ok, thanks for the information!

Which part of the frequency spectrum is bothering you? That will illuminate the next steps. I've done a lot of HiFiMAN modding.

I'm trying to pump up the bass a bit and expand the soundstage for gaming. Then, I can sell my X2s.

Do you think this is a terrible idea?

This should help you expand the soundstage a bit:

There is a bass mod in the OP of this thread which might help:

A pad swap to the FocusPad-A would bring down the 2khz-4khz region a touch, which can make the headphone feel more bassy and more spacious - you're brain pulls a lot of location data from this frequency range, hence why it is often referred to as "presence."

A swap to the Audeze vegan pads (cheapest on B&H photo, I believe) splits the difference on the mids and gives you even more soundstage via physical space from the ear.

Otherwise, amp and cable swaps are always a great option... albeit a more expensive one. The X7 isn't exactly a bass monster. There is also EQ on the X7 via the app.

Thanks, @hanostek!

My plan was to purchase the cheap ($15) velors so I could rip the rings off, then put the rings in the Brainwavz angled pads (which I already have).

If it'll cost $40 either way, I should just buy the Focus A pads and be done with it.

I'm not handy enough to get into the permanent modding scene.

I may be interested in upgrading the cable, however - if you feel it will make a difference.

Thanks again.

Yep. You'll probably like it quite a bit!

mmm sounds good, I'm really just a fan of how Dan Runs his buisness

I'm also ashamed to admit, I grabbed a lot nice metal a few weeks back an I forget to put it into my Metal Play List xD

Though I'm tempted to wait till I get my TH X00 back so I can compare it to my LA D5k
