Headphones For Heavy Metal

If you can handle open cans, Grados are often popular for metal, and the Grado 60i fit into your price range.  They do amazing things with electric guitar.

If you need closed, you might be able to find one of the rebranded Ultrasones in that price range, like the Alienware Ozma 5 or the Yamaha ones.  They would make some rip-roaring cans for metal.

Another "if you can find it" recommendation is the DBI Pro 700, which turn up from time to time.  They have an almost perfect sound signature for hard rock, with muscular bass, nice mids and poppy highs, combined with a soundstage that's not too wide.  They are worth nearly $200, but usually sell for between $30 and $40.
