It would seem, since all we've seen is an unfinished prototype, that you might be rushing to judgment about what the final product will look like. Perhaps patience is something you should practice? Justin has never made anything that looked cheap or unprofessional.

x2

Now if he could make it to match my MacBook that was made in a similar fashion. Probably one of the sturdiest and best looking notebooks out there, imo.

x2. The combo of minimalist svelte sturdiness is damn sexy. I understand the previous poster's desire for the appearance of a well-built machine, but I also expect Justin will deliver exactly that.

The way I read Justins description it is machined from one solid piece of aluminium so no upper and lower part.

But look at the picture, isn't it looks like 2 parts?

It has to be 2 parts to get the circuit board inside. There are some skeptical comments about appearance every time I show something unfinished. If it doesn't look right I'll make something else. So far that hasn't been a problem. Machining the enclosure this way has allowed a significant reduction in width, thickness, and an improvement in tolerances compared to an extrusion. It is also a cleaner look with no visible screws.

Justin, no doubt it will look great. I think having two halves without visible screws will be an improvement on anything else out there. I look forward to being able to order one.

Well looking at the competition, I don't see how it would come even close to being called competition at all. Very closely matched channels with a physical, rotating volume control with "infinite steps" to control it, all jacks on one side, upgradeable via USB. What more can we ask for now? Besides a DAC built into it of course.

Is it just the angle or is this case about the thickness of the concave cut-outs for the jacks on the Pico? Thinner than an iPhone is insane. Looks like Justin is going to do an "iPhone" to the portable amp market, that is, produce something that is miles ahead of anything else.

Yes, almost exactly that thickness.

Here is how the Pico Slim compares in thickness:

iPod Nano (current version): 0.24"
iPod Touch (current version): 0.33"
Pico Slim: 0.37"
iPod Classic: 0.41"
iPhone: 0.48"

I am really not in disagreement--this is a helluva product--nor am I trying to quibble, but for some, all jacks on one side and rotating volume control might not be as compelling as it is for others. That leaves the upgradeable USB, which appears to be unique, and the closely matched volume control, which is not [though it may be top of the class when done]. At the end of the day, in this niche, I believe it will come down to SQ, form factor, volume control quality [to the extent that is different from SQ], and battery life.

As for that built-in DAC, well.........
